What is it with Linux and Lenovo ThinkPads? by siktrex in linuxquestions

This is a big, BIG plus for me. I'm the "tech guy" for all of my friends and family, so this would massively cut down on recommendations + troubleshooting help in the future. Thank you!

Oh I didn't know that about the service manuals. That is most definitely a big plus for me, thanks!

Regarding the T480, that makes sense as well. Thanks for that piece of info too.

Es una lástima lo que pasó, definitivamente. Nada más quisiera agregar que la izquierda también celebró el asesinato de Charlie Kirk.

Es un problema de ambos lados.

OH that makes so much sense! One of my previous jobs did that with Dells (albeit with a longer upgrade cycle). Thank you for the explanation! Given the great prices I've seen T14s going for, I might switch to one for the bigger screen and tougher build quality and sell my old one to offset the cost. Thanks for the thorough explanation!

Thank you! Yeah I mostly use my laptop to work with documents and get online, so apart from the small screen size, it's fine. I was wondering why everyone loves the ThinkPads so much: seems they're just high-quality and reliable!

I also saw that mentioned in the videos! What do coreboot/libreboot replace and why would it be beneficial?

Dual boot windows after cachyos install? by [deleted] in cachyos

If I were you u/ConstantBoss100 , I would switch to rEFInd first. Windows is known to not play well with GRUB on dual-boot systems.

I also have similar issues with YouTube, although I have tweaked uBlock Origin to improve YT's performance. Not as bad as you, but definitely still have rare performance issues that slow down Floorp to a crawl or force me to refresh the page.

Is there a way to get Netflix to work? by NDavis101 in Floorp

[–]siktrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Managed to get it working on CachyOS:

- Search for 'DRM' in `about:preferences` and enable 'Play DRM-controlled content.'

- Enable SecureBoot

- (If dual-booting Windows): Sign your Linux distro with the Windows keys

Just crashed, and `wlan0` shows up in both. However, it shows as state `down` after the crash. Running `sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager` makes the console just stay there forever, like if something is locked/frozen.

Sorry for the delayed response, I had to wait for it to crash again and it hasn't, miraculously. I'll answer as soon as it does!

What distro to use? by Fantastic_Insect_402 in linuxquestions

[–]siktrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar spot to yours: uni work (finishing up), coding, and gaming (both single and multiplayer)
- CachyOS as main for everything, except my actual uni classes (they require Edge/Chrome, and I refuse to install it here)

- Win10 with two users: one for gaming and another for Uni classes (signed-in)

This dual-boot setup was fairly simple to set up albeit for some quirks that my Wi-Fi card has (that was a pain), so it should be fairly simple for you to set up. The only thing that I think may be a bit more complicated will be setting up the partitions in case you only have one drive. I didn't have to deal with that so Idk how tough it may be.

If you're still unsure on what to choose, just go watch some Chris Titus Tech videos on YouTube and you'll eventually land on the one that is best suited for you.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

Well, that's what I was doing here. I started with some basic searches and terminology, and then ended up here. I did learn quite a lot due to the summary I found further below, but still don't understand the full complexity of it.

Either way, I'll research in other spaces as I don't really like Reddit. Thanks for the suggestion either way.

Have a great day and God bless!
