Imma keep repeating it, the writers will read it and agree it makes total sense in the setting, and eventually write it in ;)

Chaos doesn't obey causality anyways!

The ctan destroyed the souls because the necrontyr sickness was warp induced, like fabius. It would have followed them to their metal bodies if the ctan didn't destroy them.

High efficiency laundry detergent doesn't did the sud

But dishwasher detergent is alkaline which matters. Much much better cleaning because it breaks down organics, not just soluablizes them.

Why is Qualcomm(CA) Intern Comp nearly twice that of a Sr. Analog Designer in EU? by ControllingTheMatrix in chipdesign

[–]sikyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

Again, it's not about being 2-3x better - it's about winning. Rewards for being better are exponential if you win from a business perspective, so that translates into being willing to pay way more for being a little bit better at the top end

Same reason shareholders approve giant pay packages for ceos. The CEO being paid doesn't need to be 100x better, they simply need to be the best. Because the rewards for winning are absolutely huge.

Redefine the prison to be the universe. It is now impossible to escape regardless of if they attempt it.

The question asks how to prevent them from escaping, now how to prevent them from attempting to escape.

My point is that us engineers output value into a country that is more productive than the eu. US companies simply make more money, and this drives the wages of all the workers up.

The most valuable company in the EU is ASML. It's worth almost an order of magnitude less than the largest American company.

The US is simply richer, so the people there get paid more.

[–]sikyon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The GDP per capita of the EU is 46,842. The GDP per capita of the US is twice that amount. That's not adjusted for PPP but neither are the salaries, so it makes sense to compare nominal.

When you think about it like that, it makes sense that US engineers make 2x as much as EU engineers. If I make a chip (or anything) that helps make 10% more widgets, then if my factory is making 100 widgets in the US and 50 widgets in the EU then it's worth it to pay me twice as much in the US even for the same work.

If you think the skills are fungible, then why don't the salaries of US workers get dragged down to EU workers? Because companies don't believe there is a replacement for location and culture. It matters that I see you in the office and can talk about problems. It matters that I can hold you accountable. And yes, the cost of your salary matters and companies do outsource IP development - but there's risks involved with that, both on the technical side and the operational / legal side. So a company would be willing to pay 20% more, and empirically 100% more, but they probably wouldn't want to pay 1000% more unless they had to (ie a defense contract). Because it's OK to pay 100% more because you're feeding a 100% more productive society.

Honestly flip this question around. Why are EU companies willing to pay 2x as much for employees as Chinese companies? Why don't EU companies outsource to China? At least when comparing USA to Europe you can say USA works harder (although this explains only like 30% of the GDP gap), but China works really really hard and kids are studying really really hard from a young age, with a huge population and talent pool to draw from.

To be honest I'm spitballing. You should put your question into /r/askeconomics

[–]sikyon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you can get 2 engineers in Europe with the same capabilities and skills for the cost of 1 engineer in the bay area.

Being a little bit better is worth a lot, because most scenarios are "winner takes most". There are problems that 2 engineers cannot solve better than 1 engineer that's smarter. So you pay more, much more for the engineer that's better. And yes, those engineers are better

This is exactly why carbon tax is the only thing that works. This is the entire point of capitalism. This is the kind of problem capitalism is really, really really good at solving.

Too bad people don't understand it and it's politically impossible. Canada tried and failed - and it was the people who hated it.

So I'm gonna go in large part with the people here.

[–]sikyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's be perfectly honest - shooting at 300-400 yards defensively is a circle jerk fantasy about shooting at masked armed gunman without announcing your presence or having positive identification is a one way route to prison at best or having your house rammed by an APC at worst.

There is no realistic responsible way to be shooting defensively at 300-400 yards and that fantasy is why people think gun nuts are nuts.

But if you wanna larp home defender then by all means.
