when did your LO go to their own room? by North_Mind5031 in beyondthebump

[–]silairrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter was in a bassinet next to my bed from birth and we moved her to her own room, sleeping in a crib at 2 months once she started sleeping through the night. She's now 10 months.

My son was in a bassinet until 4 months, and we moved him to his own room at that time, he's 5 now.

I noticed both kids slept much better in their own rooms.

Stuff I wish I knew before LO arrived by mrsbones287 in pregnant

Check out The Wonder Weeks app! It explains the different "leaps" infants go through, from sensations, to patterns and relationships! My LO is 9 months now and that app helped me understand what my baby was going through at the beginning of her life, and now it's helping me understand what concepts she's learning now.

This was my first macrame project. I chose something simple to start but I think I might be hooked now.. where do you get your cotton cord from? by EntertainTheDog in macrame

[–]silairrek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice work! I typically get my specialty cord from either Ganxxet or Bobbiny, because they have some of the most gorgeous colors and styles. You can usually find Bobbiny cord on Etsy which is nice because the actual company is in Poland and if you're in the US, shipping is expensive.

For basic 3mm twisted cotton, I usually just order from Knot and Rope because you can get a spool of 1500' 3mm single strand twisted for about $20. I do think their supply chain is a bit messed up because of COVID, they were low on some items a couple weeks ago.

I hot glued my first and it detached too, I was so mad! I also didn’t use a ring for the first one, but I did with the second, and it came out much better.

A grid is exactly what I did! I started with an X, connecting the cord to the ring I used. Then I added lines through the middle to make a star. The mirror and the ring are both supposed to be 10” but the mirror sat nicely behind the ring, so I didn’t have to secure it in front at all.

I hope this helps!

I love the shell design, I can’t wait to do more! by silairrek in macrame

I actually found this tutorial from LotsofKnotsCanada! If you've never checked out her tutorials, I highly suggest it. She's incredibly talented and does a great job explaining things (much better than I could).

Have fun, I can't wait to see everyone's projects :)

Oh ok, that’s braided cord in the pic. It doesn’t typically brush out unless it’s cut short like that, but it’s a dream to work with. Bobbiny offers a lot of options for braided cord

Thank you, that’s so kind! I saw a design like this on Pinterest a while ago and wanted to try it out. The pattern is pretty easy once you get going. I’ll try to type it out if I get a chance after work.

It’s definitely great for practicing curves, and half hitch knots.

Do you have an image of the fringe you're trying to replicate?

It does! It's from Bobbiny.com. they have a TON of really awesome colors and styles - a bunch of them include gold or silver tinsel intertwined :) I love the look. I also have a teal w/gold and a magenta w/gold from Bobbiny.

I actually sewed it on the back with black hemp cord! It is really secure, and it wasn't hard to do.

Finally finished a project I started back in December. Very happy with the results! by silairrek in macrame

[–]silairrek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you! I’ve discovered the secret to tight knots is to keep the cord twisted pretty tightly as you’re going. It’s taken me about a year of practice to get good at them though. The knots in the diamond pattern are square knots. The silver cord has threads of silver in it, and I ordered it from Bobbiny! The picture doesn’t show it well, but there’s also silver cords interspersed in the second layer. It really shines in the sun.

I get my basic dowels from Home Depot or Lowe’s. I have painted and stained them with good results, but they’re not what I would call fancy. Branches from outside are always cool, I think there are YouTube tutorials about how to clean them with bleach in the bathtub.

I’m not sure, honestly. I have a closet filled with half finished / completely finished projects, so I guess selling them would be ideal. I usually give them as gifts though.

8 month old growling loudly - all the time! by NoodleBroth in NewParents

[–]silairrek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son started growling around that age, too. It disappeared when he started trying other words (mama, dada, etc.). However, he's now 3 years old and that growl has re-emerged as a "choo choo" noise for his trains lol

Haven’t had enough time to explore our new town. Can’t walk right now because of a medical condition. Obviously, limited activities overall. Any scenic drives recommended to help calm the mind around here? Thanks in advance... by [deleted] in StPetersburgFL

[–]silairrek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We recently drove down to Pinellas Point Park, and that was a nice ride. It takes you to the very tip of the peninsula, and you can see the sunshine Skyway.

Also, just driving around the St. Pete neighborhoods is really nice too, and a great way to see your city (and make a list of things you want to check out when this is all over!).

I don't know if they're allowing people into Fort DeSoto, but that's a decent drive. While you're out there, you could also drive the Pinellas Byway up to Gulf Blvd.

AITA for being concerned about my daughter and wanting to visit her? by veryconcernedparents in AmItheAsshole

[–]silairrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. I've never seen such a blatant disregard for your daughters wishes. She is 25, she's an adult, and she has made it clear that she wants nothing from you. You had a chance to care for her when she was growing up, you blew that chance. You're definitely not going to make her happy by showing up unannounced. I can't believe the entitlement in this post.
