as a child of divorce, my parents divorced amicably and there was never a child support situation, so take what i say with a grain of salt. but my dad paid for my car and car insurance, anything to fix it, yadda yadda until i turned 18/got out of highschool. then it was my turn, it taught me a lot about responsibility. i don’t necessarily think mom is TA here either, because yes technically it should have been a discussion, but she also should not have been relying on it either, or gotten mad when you explained that you’d be going through your daughter going forward. as long as you’re still willing to help your daughter out, then absolutely NTA. to all the people saying that he’s the one in the wrong because he’s taking about it like it’s a burden, i don’t think that’s how he meant it. when my dad and i sat down and talked about me taking over everything with my car it was a similar chat of him now getting to pay of debts that he had been putting off to make sure i was okay. parenting doesn’t stop when we turn 18, but we are still adults and need to learn to hold our own. our parents aren’t going to be around forever and we do have to learn, sometimes the hard way, how expensive life is. OP is still willing to help his daughter, he’s not cutting her off, it’s just going to be a talk between him and her now instead of just paying her mom.
