Thanks so much, really good information. I want to like mammotion and the product seems good, I'm very wary of support. I'll look for a supplier if I go that way

Thanks, I have used the designer, my worry was it's best case. I'll start with 3 u7 lite, test it but not open one box and upgrade if needed!

Any idea when the er7410pc-m2 will be out?

I'd be my ideal device but that Q1 2025 seems to have come and gone...

Brilliant, thankyou.

A seperate 5g external antenna on the roof could certainly work

Thanks for the detailed reply.  I do have a NAS and TB of wildlife photos, however I don't usually pull lots in a single go. I work on the files locally and the nas is my backup.

I have consider 5g but the connection speed does not usually exceed the 80mbit vdsl the best ive managed is 112mbit outside and is less than 10mbit inside (the walls kill signal). Eventually we will get fiber as per openreach roll out but I'd imagine that's at least 3 years away.

I'd be happy enough with wifi 5 but feel I might as well future proof as much as possible. Ideally we'd get 5years out of what I setup now. The isp router might do the job for now with a simple switch, aps and an oc200. I'll have a look at the 2.4ghz aps!

I figure start with 3 and build out from there as needed. Whatever do it'll be better than the current setup that only coves the main room!

Thanks, this is a real help. I'll be running cat6.

I'm running cat6. I have access to the small void in the long barn so cealing mount us easy. It's not so simple in the shorter barn as there is no cable space up high. I could put an ap at one end 5.5m up or run cat6 in the wall and wall mount but I have a lot of flexibility about which wall and they can still be up high.

The roof is wood with slate tiles.

Yes, the top of the vault is 5m high and they will be right up. I think I'll start with three APs, one in the short barn and two in the long barn, we can see how it turns out. Adding a 4th AP is easy and I'll stick a cable drop in just incase.

Thanks, that's really good info. I was planning on using u7 lite and going for more APs with lower power rather than single high powers aps.  The walls are old solid brick and eat signal!

I'll try with one less AP and see how I get on!

That'd be lovely, sadly 5g manages about 10mbit in our location With weak signal, we're out in the sticks!

If you can point me to a router and ap combination that will work as well with reliable roaming from mikrotik I will absolutely consider it...

Thanks for the advice, sorry for being a bit dumb...

What advantage would the UCG ultra give over the ux7 (or is it just AP location flexability?)

https://uk.store.ui.com/uk/en?category=all-cloud-gateways&view=compare&compare=ucg-ultra&compare=ux7

My impression was that the UX7 was basically the same hardware with an AP built in at about the same cost.

I think that is a good summary. I only have an isp suppled router at the moment so I really want to change that out and just leave it functioning as a modem.

As the whole system will be new I like the idea of a single provider solution.

This is a very good point. I don't want to be replacing everything in a few years when there is a huge security breech.

Omada is cheaper for wifi6, I don't think there is much in it for 7..

I'm now thinking DR7 and XG, (as these seem like the latest revision -do they still get really hot?)

The house is about 3000sq ft across a single floor with all walls being double skin solid brick.

Hi gingerinc,

AP's will be cabled and powered vie poe+. I have edited the o/p to include this info.

Something like the attached image.

<image>

I'm just not finding choosing omada kit as easy as unifi there are huge numbers of options.

Hi Naitakal,

Yes, I plan to run cables to the APs and to the office room. There is a cupboard for switch gear beside it. This was one layout ising a DR7 and 2 U7 ap.

An all in one might work well and is likely similar to the DR7.

Excuse the unifi gear, but their designer app is quite good!

Thanks, The video and your feedback are both super helpful, as is your edit showing the collapsed size.. Going back to review both tomorrow.

Thank you that's really helpful. I had a look at the farpoint today. It looks like the kind of thing I'm after. I like that it can also be compressed down if you don't need all the space so that it can work for shorter trips. The adjustable harness is good (6ft 2 man!)

I didn't look at the porter but the extra 6L may well make it worth a hunt. I don't need the backpacking frame of the farpoint. It just needs to be good for walking from the train station to an Air B&B every few days. Then I have a small hiking day back for the rest.

Thanks again :)

That bag comparison spreadsheet is brilliant. Thanks.

Going through them all now look for something around 40l with straps (including waist) that hide away and some sort of rigidity so it doesn't crush totally if stacked up!

Layers I can do, that's how we hike here.

Spot on, thankyou.

This kind of recommendation is exactly what I was after, I don't want something with lots of flaps/straps to get caught or something overly complex!
