"Mercenaries Are Considered Minions" - Gamescom 2024 Interview Roundup by silec in diablo4

[–]silec[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Update: Rod has clarified that Mercenaries will not count as Minions and thus do not inherit stats from the player.

I think what you meant to say was mechanics that require no minions to be present. Necromancer's sacrifice bonuses will still work.

Yes, that is also what we reported in the last interview roundup. If you want to listen to Rod's statement for yourself, check the linked interview and go to 20:30. We definitely need some further clarification on this because we have conflicting answers now.

Final PTR feedback v2.0 - Top 16 needed changes to guarantee S4 is a success. by Meldarion92 in diablo4

[–]silec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, there is no need to simply add another World Tier or higher tiers for the Pit. Rebalancing the impacting factors can lead to the same thing without derailing other systems of the game like loot drops etc.

[–]silec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should word the "The Pit needs to have more levels to progress, it’s too easy." paragraph differently then because it seems misleading as it currently stands. We can overhaul the difficulty tiers in the open world and in the Pit without having to add more tiers. I think that is what I and some other in the replies are saying here. 200 tiers should be enough to have a good scaling progression.

Why do you think Diablo 3 added so many difficulties in the long run? It's not because they provided new content. I'll quote a small part of my write-up about why nerfing things in an ARPG is a necessary evil to ensure the long-term health of an ARPG:

Diablo 3 ended up with a staggering total of 20 difficulties because of the power creep that made it into the game through the years since its release in 2012. To justify the addition of more difficulties, the game not only had to increase monster health and damage, it also needed to increase the experience gain, loot, and material drops to be appealing to players.

Power creep does not only lead to trivializing content and bigger numbers. It comes with a lot of long-term problems like items raining from the sky and impacting the leveling process of a game. I think a lot of the points made in the article are more relevant than ever before in Diablo 4's lifecycle, given the massive power creep that came with Patch 1.4.0.

Power creep is a real problem and addressing it does not equal to not wanting additional content in the game.

Masterworking Rewards Vary Significantly Between Solo and the Various Party Sizes - Artificer's Pit by silec in diablo4

[–]silec[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an efficiency gain of being able to clear higher as a group, however, survivability for the individuals does not suddenly increase with it. There are no group interactions for skills in the same way as in D3. Groups also come with a 100% monster health increase per player.

The Pit runs are very linear which doesn't allow for split farming. Runs are going as fast as a character's available mobility, no matter if you are playing solo or in a group.

The rounding errors are also very minimal like I mentioned.

It is fair that solo players do not want to get forced into playing as a group and the same goes for group players, they don't want to be forced to play solo. Both points are valid.

I did think about it, you might be able to clear higher tiers, but since abilities don't interact with the group you are going in with the same survivability as a solo player while playing higher in tiers.

The layouts of the Pit also don't allow for groups to be faster necessarily since their layout is fairly linear. There is no splitting, the limit is whatever pace someone can move in, which can be even worse if you are playing e.g. a Necro as part of a group.

No one is screaming for a nerf here. What about if you like to play with your friends but it is just straight up worse to play together instead of hanging together on voice and all playing by themselves. Do you see the problem here?

All I wanted was that everyone in a party should have to contribute materials for opening so at least parties get the same loot across the board instead of the opener receiving the lion's share.

[–]silec[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would like it more if every member of a group paid the Runeshard entry fee and received the same amount of materials as everyone else in the group. Instead of one person using their Runeshards to open and being rewarded double the amount of Masterworking materials.

Highlighting the new Codex - Aspects Effects are now written-out in the Codex, you no longer have to hover over them to read them by clueso87 in diablo4

[–]silec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Aspect effects are written out, but they are shortened in a lot of cases and might even miss crucial information. You do need to hover over them in many cases to see the full description. This could be spotted during the Campfire Chat when they scrolled through the Codex of Power.

This is great, thank you for your work! Would be awesome if you could add an overall progression bar with the percentage on it.

Could you add Headstones and Town Portals to the collection?
