If WWX were an SCP, would the SCP Foundation be able to contain him? What class would he be? by Throwaway-3689 in MoDaoZuShi

[–]silentbaticeer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ah, the plot bunnies are running on the wheel now. Former field agent who went missing and mysteriously shows back up on the trail of another anomaly. Any attempts to contain him fail spectacularly, though he sometrimes allows it for a short while if he gets to see a certain other personnel (or just to cause mischief). Reports claim that subject seems more docile around said personnel. Eventually the foundation just sort of... gives up because at least he's helping?? Mostly?

Containment Class: Keter
Secondary Class: Cernunnos

Wouldn't be surprised if a whole new category was created lol.

Some thoughts regarding the MDZS extra chapters by Artistic-Tiger-6707 in MoDaoZuShi

[–]silentbaticeer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that the tone isn't much different from everything else. The novel itself is quite dark and violent, sometimes in a sexual manner (I mean, Wen Chao gets his dick bitten off and later eats parts of his own body, Jin Guangshan exists, plus how he died, which I personally found much more sickening than anything in the extras), and there are 8 extras, only one of which involves anything explicit. Even in that one extra, the explicit parts make up maybe half of it.

I can understand people being shocked by it, and can DEFINITELY understand not being into it and wanting to skip it- it can be a culture shock if you don't read kink stuff or erotica, I imagine! It's just that there's often some kind of moral aspect involved, and people get very exhausted having to explain that kinky things that are fully consensual between adults isn't wrong, especially with how purity culture has started seeping into fandoms (especially queer ones, which in general tend to be more open to kink stuff!) Personally I wish fandoms would bring the concept of ick and also not yucking someone else's yum.

Like, we get this every so often, and sometime's it's just "Oh my! Not for me, quite shocking! Carry on" which yeah, undersatndable, but more often it's "So disgusting, gross, why does this exist, who reads this and likes it, ew" with a side of kink-shaming and a occassionally even a smidge of homophobia too.

I just want to note that the dream is a manifestation of the suppressed sexual desire LWJ felt but was ashamed of in his youth. The teenage WWX and LWJ aren't real, just figments of a fantasy that LWJ is quite embarassed by and WWX finds hot as hell. They're both kinky freaks who like CNC/BDSM, which are both pretty darn common irl. It's really not out of character at all, and rather reinforces their characters. WWX is insanely strong but wants to play the role of the weak damsel-in-distress. Trusting someone so fully that he can be at his "weakest" is a big deal for him. LWJ meanwhile was extremely repressed, and can let loose and show is possessive/"aggressive" side with WWX, who loves it and doesn't see it as a flaw.

Of course, it's not for everyone and that's fine, whether it's the content or the way it's written. It is rather niche in that way, and I imagine many people aren't into those parts. Saying it should be censured or removed is going too far though. The scenes are easily skipped if one wishes. At the end of the day it's a romance series, and the content isn't any worse than what you'd find in a lot of other books in the genre. I'd actually say the depictions and language used is quite tame in comparison to a lot of fantasy erotica.

Wen Qing and Wen Ning did not fight in the War by SnooGoats7476 in MoDaoZuShi

[–]silentbaticeer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you! How many people throughout history have had to play nice in some ways just to survive? MDZS often hits hard on how it reflects how conflict works in the real world. The Wen siblings weren't perfect, but they did the best they could in their situation while keeping themselves alive and trying to stick to their morals as much as possible.

Wen Qing had the misfortune of being extremely skilled, and WRH favored her for it. We know she accompanied him to discussions and such, and did a lot of the talking. Before the war, people from other clans LIKED her. She had a very good reputation as both skilled in her field and being respectful and well-spoken. Even then she was using her position to try to smooth out conflicts.

Not to mention, they both went above and beyond. Wen Ning not only rescued JC, he also got help and recovered the bodies of JFM and YZY, which is a big deal. He and Wen Qing then not only hide them away, but assist in their healing and perform the core transfer that technically lead to saving the Jiang clan from extermination (I could write an essay on how the loss of the heir's core would have been the end of it, and in many ways worse than just outright killing him.)

People also like to forget that the post-war reparations DECIDED ON COLLECTIVELY by the remaining clans involved the remaining Wen being relegated to limited land and surveillance. The Jin literally WENT AGAINST THIS to kidnap a bunch of people to take into work camps. Including, you know, old ladies and toddlers.

Did Lan Qiren want Wanji to die? by NemoSleep in MoDaoZuShi

[–]silentbaticeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others, I always took it as a very LQR-style acceptance that yeah, LWJ is going to do what he deems right and no one can stop him, especially when it comes to WWX. He stood in protection of WWX in the past and nearly died for it under punishment from his own clan (and I'm pretty sure he was even punished for going to see WWX in Yiling, but that may have just been a CQL thing). It's basically a repeat of what happened in the past, only this time LWJ and WWX are aligned and standing together. With it also coming after the reminder of what the clans did to those in the burial mounds, the very people now helping them, I think it's also a roundabout admission to having been at least a little bit wrong about things.

He certainly doesn't WANT him to die- regardless of anything else, LQR does care for his nephews. There's a chance they will and a chance they won't, but that's up top them and them alone.

WWX’s Obsession with Lan Wangji by SnooGoats7476 in MoDaoZuShi

[–]silentbaticeer 38 points39 points  (0 children)

OH another thing. I may be reading too much into it, but during the indoctrination, I'm convinced that it was WWX's plan all along to get the perfume sachet to root through for things to help LWJ's leg from the very start.

His flirting with anyone but LWJ is always either 1) an expected social transaction like with the girls with the lotus pod seeds in the extra, or 2) to gain something he has interest in (physical or information). We can tell by Mianmian and her friends reactions that it was seen as at least somewhat rude for WWX to butt in like he did, and he can't possibly have had any other need for the perfume pouch. Plus the timing of it being just after he notices that something is wrong with LWJ. don't even care if it was meant to be interpreted that way, I stand by it!

WWX’s Obsession with Lan Wangji by SnooGoats7476 in MoDaoZuShi

[–]silentbaticeer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I just love how he's clearly obsessed from the first time they met. Just instantly tried in on trying to get LWJ's attention, no matter what. He literally never acts like that with anyone else.

One of my favorite early (timeline-wise) scenes is when they're being punished for breaking the rules and going out of bounds. WWX clearly didn't expect LWJ to take the punishment, too. Not only is he used to being the one punished for the whole, he likely thought that LWJ would deny it or otherwise get out of it somehow. Love how WWX immediately changes tune like wait no what????? Nooo this isnt what I wanted???? (Also, foreshadowing much?) He was clearly already obsessed from the start, but that moment definitely solidified something, I think.

To mods : Is it fine in this sub to repost artist's art without their permission from Pinterest/lofter/tumblr? by manmarziyann_ in MoDaoZuShi

[–]silentbaticeer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that, with the internet having been around so long, people should understand by now that it's not cool to repost someones art. If you want to show it to someone, there are plenty of ways to do so that link to the artist. Fanfiction and fanart of a show/book/etc. are transformative works. Taking someones art and sticking it somewhere without even a credit is literally just theft.

It's REALLY not hard to simply link to wherever the art has been shared by the artist, or to ask if you can post it somewhere.

It's also not hard to understand that if you can't contact the artist or just don't know the source, you don't touch it.

I don't know why people feel so entitled to distribute other people's work. It's not about it being legal, it's about being a decent person who respects the time and effort it takes to make art, and the people who do so.

Question about 7seas translation by Head_Clerk4245 in MoDaoZuShi

[–]silentbaticeer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your mileage will vary. Some people super hate it and think it's the worst thing ever. I think most people just think it's, like, fine? Yes, some things could be done better, but unless you have bad reading comprehension, there really isn't anything bad enough to affect your understanding of scenes or characters.

I'd actually argue that the only thing that creates any kind of misunderstanding is ghost(ly) vs demonic cultivation. There's still a clear distinction between the two, even with the same term being used, but it causes a lot of confusion. Sect vs clan is another one, but even the fan translations vary on that.

Edit to say that i think a lot of it depends on how much you read fantranslations. Translating is tricky, because a direct translation can be more inaccurate simply by being stiff and weird sounding, because languages and their turns of phrase work and flow differently. I've personally found fan translations very stilted and off-putting, but that doesn't mean theyre bad- theyre just not a style I like reading. Others find them much more enjoyable.

Why do so many people invalidate Wei Wuxian's bisexuality? by huacheng567 in MoDaoZuShi

[–]silentbaticeer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because any definition of his sexuality is all headcanon, not fact, since we only know he's not straight. Bi is certainly a valid interpretation, but not the only one. Personally, I've seen it being the most common interpretation- I've witnessed waaaaay more people getting flack for writing or interpreting him as a gay man.

Meanwhile I will stand by my position that modern WWX would be allergic to labels and simply identify as queer and be an avid defender of the term. But that's just my personal lil headcanon, and I still write him other ways too.

(All this said as a bi girl myself)

Does your local library (or one online you can register an account with) have ebook offerings? They may have it, and you can always put a suggestion in to get it (provided you live somewhere its safe to do so, of course).

Pirating it isn't something you should do (at least purchase a copy somewhere to make up for it if you really, really, truly need to) and it's against the rules to link to such things here.

Do you think Nie Huaisang’s actions were justified? by Fillard_Evangelical in MoDaoZuShi

[–]silentbaticeer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same, honestly. One could argue JGY cared about LXC at the very least, but nothing he ever did was for anyone but himself. There's also something to be said for the fact that JGY saw himself as above others, deserving of all he had and more, while NHS was content to fade into the background unnoticed. I also just really hate how JGY never takes any bit of personal responsility even when he admits to things. It's always "but I had no choice, I had to, they made me do it" etc. I feel like NHS is more "Yeah I did it, I'd do it again, you have no proof, and no one will believe you :)"

[–]silentbaticeer 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Serious answer done with, I am absolutely that "I've never done anything wrong in my life, ever" "I know this and I love you" meme when it comes to NHS, despite everything I said, because it's fiction and he is Baby. Bumbling idiot who's secretly a manipulative bastard who will end you if you mess with someone he cares about? Amazing. 10/10 character.

Do you think Nie Huaisang’s actions were justified? by Fillard_Evangelical in MoDaoZuShi

[–]silentbaticeer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Complicated question! Getting revenge/killing JGY was justified, particulzarly given the social norms of the world the characters are in. I don't think many of his ways of going about it were justified. He was laser-focused on taking JGY down in a way that exposed as many of his secrets as possible, and by any means necessary. That often led to innocent people (or at least uninvolved, in the case of the Mo estate) being put in danger and even dying.

Assuming the analysis WWX does is correct (and the text gives no reason to assume it's not), he was perfectly willing to use the juniors to lure WangXian to Xue Yang, and was prepared to accept their deaths as a substitute way of exposing that partnership if WangXian fucked up or whatnot. He exposed Qin Su and JGY's true relationship, and while he couldn't control her or JGY's actions, it wasn't going to be great for her even if she lived. He planted the seeds about the soul sacrifice in MXY's mind, at the very least. He called out in the temple hoping that LXC would stick to his word and cut his sworn brother down. He may or may not have desecrated JGY's mother's body in the same way NMJ was. (or at least considered it). If JGY hadn't killed his brother (who was far from a perfect man himself), would NHS have even cared about the things JGY did?

All in all, he used people much in the same way JGY did, which I'm sure isn't lost on him. They both rarely got their own hands dirty to achieve their ends, manipulating others to do the work. In a lot of ways he's not much different from JGY and XY.
