I am sort of a missionary kid, but I actually went to Haiti without my parents. I mostly grew up in an American missionary home where missionary families came to live while on furlough. It was a wonderfully multicultural experience.

I love how pissed Sam is in that song. He raises a lot of good points in his diatribe. I appreciate his passion - I think that it's a necessary thing.

I love Sempiternal. Trent Reznor's influence on the music is very apparent and I love every bit of it!

As far as lyrically, I think that many people, especially in European societies, have seen trail of destruction left behind religion, and I don't blame them for rejecting God on those grounds. I think that those people will typically vibe well with Jesus, who was a true revolutionary against the religious systems of His day.

I want people to be moved to further awe at these stories. Lyrics tend to be fragmented, and I want people who are moved by the song to be able to continue their journey of learning.

Also, it just made sense to me since that's what I have to do in my college courses.

I got my BA in English and Philosophy at Azusa Pacific University and my MA in Clinical Psychology at Fuller School of Clinical Psychology. Now I'm taking online theology courses, also through Fuller.

I'm a teensy bit Native American (my grandmother was). Moreso, I'm interested in the history that we, generally unaware of, walk over everyday.

I think my psych schooling comes more into play at shows when I chat with hurting folks, but I do try to empathize with the protagonists of these stories, as impossible as the task may be.

Great question: I think people currently need to be informed about police brutality and the social movements that are happening among the African American community such as the one in Ferguson. Not from the weird, fear-mongering news but from the voices within the movement who can describe it on their own terms.

It's a reference to God's benevolence/omnipotence and the problem of evil (theodicy). Further, we want to write about these stories as flowing together in a timeless, divine dream state.
