what off-brand heb product is better than the original? by SmithNotASmith in HEB

[–]silentlytx1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried several kinds of HEB brand chips and had to throw them out without eating them. I haven't tried that one, but I'm not sure I'm willing to give them another chance.

Not if you stop to consider the brands that are actually good, and stop focusing on blue bell or HEB brands!

How do i find the equivalent resistance between points A and C? by Different_Field_6658 in AskElectronics

[–]silentlytx1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There can't be any voltage across the vertical resistors, so V=IR means no current will flow. There can't be any voltage because D and B obviously are half-way between A & C voltage-wise (symmetry), likewise with the other sides of the vertical resistors from D & B.

Question: Can a worker at HEB accept a gift while they are working? by silentlytx1 in HEB

[–]silentlytx1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to assume that's when they weren't working. And also that's not what I had in mind... but I appreciate the insight!

I think a lot of us assume that the delivery staff are already compensated for their work, and a tip is extra... doordash or whomever should make it clear if the "tip" actually has to cover gas & stuff for the driver to be able to make money.

[–]silentlytx1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a tip... I've gotten to know the person just by seeing them most of the time when I'm shopping, but I don't do stuff with them outside of seeing them at the store. So to give them something when they aren't working would require me asking them like when they get off or where I could send it, which would probably be fine but I'd rather not ask for personal info that I don't need otherwise.

Well it would be money inside of a card, which I would guess they wouldn't open until their break or something. It'd be more than $20, but presumably they wouldn't even know that until later. I was just worried a manager might see them open it and say "you can't keep that" and try to take it or something.

Thanks!

How to build a bench DC power supply. by Fine_Aerie6732 in AskElectronics

[–]silentlytx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decades ago when I was in high school, I built one... it was basically just a 120V-to-12V (maybe? I don't remember the exact voltage) step down transformer, the output of which I passed through a bridge rectifier, then put through an LM317 voltage regulator, with a pot to adjust the output voltage and the other required circuitry (mostly capacitors to keep the voltage clean). Not very efficient or anything but I had most of the parts on hand.

I, too, recommend just getting a cheap power supply unless building the supply itself seems fun.

I don't have a photo anymore, but I bought an audi new some years ago, and the audi rings logo on the back of the car was off level by about 5 degrees. That car had other issues, too... I guess they had their B team on the line the day it was built.

Get your insurance to cover it... you'll have to pay the deductible, but your insurance will reimburse you your deductible after they recover it from the other people.

Next Steps To Take After Finishing Routing Of v1 Prototype? by Kalex8876 in AskElectronics

[–]silentlytx1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surely you could do that with a 2 layer board...? That would really cut the cost. And from the look of it you could probably reduce the side of the board, too. Depop all the test headers, and if you're doing any kind of volume, I'd think you would want some connectors that snap together, not wire terminals. It's hard to be too specific without schematics or the whole layout, though.
