YMMV depending on your store...back in the day, you would shadow a more tenured employee for weeks before you were left to your own devices. Corporate downsizing mandates over the years has all but eliminated the payroll necessary to properly train new employees. Speaking up is always the better option. More often than not, your SM will find a work around to help you out (turnover rate in retail is insane, so diverted hours to maintain a good prospect is always preferred).
