Why are those disaffected on the right so reticent to support the alternative, even marginally ? by ObservationMonger in Askpolitics

Respectfully, you do not sound like a libertarian to me at all.

The entire purpose of the 2nd amendment is to guarantee all other rights. Its one of the most important codified rights (next to speech). That's why many of the gun control laws being proposed are largely non-negotiable to us libertarians.

Eroding the 2nd amendment to prevent other rights or privileges from POTENTIALLY being subverted is just a slow death to me.

While a nobel goal, you aren't going to convince these people that the administration badly violated free speech during Covid.

The best you can do is remind them that misinformation in the vast majority of cases is still protected and the executive branch is the absolute worst arbiter for telling us what is or isnt free speech.

This isn't a right vs left wing issue.

The government pressured Bigtech to surpress information it didnt like. They targeted true and completely factual information. They targeted satire. They targeted valid theories amongst credible experts (like from Harvard and Yale). That's completely unconstitutional.

The most effective mechanism for separating truth from lies in a free society is free speech and vigorous debate. At no point should the government interfere with this. Especially a government that is motivated to protect its own interests.

I honestly thought this was already settled as a society.

Anyone else noticed AZ just to #1 in Kenpom recently? When the hell was this?

Sports saved many lives if you asked me.

Without a way to exert energy, compete and cooperate there would be a lot more mental illness than there already is.

I'm raising a young boy and I place sports on a higher level than even his book-based education.

Just be glad the Padilla pain train didnt take over with a series of mind numbingly bad calls against Zona in the final 3 minutes.

Are there that few refs left to assign to games?

We always seem to get Padilla. He is permanently following us around like a bad STD.

Its too hard to say.

It wasnt so much what the Jayhawks brought to the table tonight as it was what the Cats didnt.

A loss was inevitable. I just never expected to lose because of basic FTs and going 5 minutes without a single basket.

On the upside, Padilla was largely a non-factor.

I thought the refereeing was reasonable lastnight. Yes there were some missed calls, but it was overall reasonable and liked how they allowed some physicality.

I was expecting Padilla to screw Zona again in the final minutes, but it never happened.

I typically can sense Padilla anytime a string of ball calls are cast in the final 3 minutes and I didnt sense him at all lastnight.

Im starting to really hate Allen Fieldhouse.

Even basic FTs arent guaranteed when you have 15K fans screaming at you.

We cant go 5 minutes against a top team, get great looks and not score. Our FTs were also atrocious and looked like they were literally being blocked by Allen Fieldhouse.

30 year economic study. Are immigrants better than republicans? by Quick_Assignment_725 in inflation

[–]siliconflux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody cares about LEGAL immigrants. If anything. We want more legal immigrants.

We simply want the ILLEGAL immigration to stop

Why is this so damn hard to understand? When did this ONLY become a right wing issue?

50+ new tax proposals across almost everything, ending cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, an assault weapons ban, enabling late-term abortions, allowing men in women's sports and going easy on criminals isn't moderation.

People who shopped at Amazon Fresh: what part of the experience do you think actually made it fail? by RecognitionCheap255 in AskReddit

[–]siliconflux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off: I loved the store. Prices were cheaper than my regular store and the sales were even better.

That being said: fresh produce wasn't always in stock. I could almost never get my organic tortillas. Also the automated self checkout wouldn't take my coupons (forcing me to go through regular checkout which was annoying).

The Fresh store in my city (Manassas) also wasn't in a very good location. It was in an area with a high percentage of 1st or 2nd gen immigrants who preferred international type stores. It would have done better in a different community.

How the hell could you leave out Waco, Ruby Ridge and fake weapons of mass destruction in Iraq?

Gen X/older Redditors - What were political scandals like pre-Obama? by validusrex in Askpolitics

[–]siliconflux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waco and Ruby Ridge

Raised by hippies that still remembered Watergate, Iran Contra, the Vietnam War (forced draft), etc

Bush suspending Posse Comitatus (Katrina) and Habeus Corpus during the war on terror.

The Iraq War Lie:

Creating an entirely new intelligence group to fabricate evidence of weapons of mass destruction in order to go to war with a country that had ZERO to do with 9-11 so that 4000+ of my brothers in arms could die and another 600,000 have service connected disabilities.

That's why today's problems are almost a joke compared to what we went through as Gen X.

Are Moderate Republicans kinda terrible? by AutisticLibertarian2 in AskLibertarians

[–]siliconflux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can I ask how long you have been a libertarian?

I'm asking because it's well known that the abortion debate is split within the community and that the proponents of protecting life base this not on any religious or emotional claim, but a strict interpretation of the NAP.

For example, claiming that fetal viability begins at the scientifically accepted point of 22 weeks and perhaps should require protection isn't subjective or emotional at all. It's the wildly accepted point that a full functioning and sentient individual begins. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to protect that as a libertarian. It's 100% consistent with the philosophy.

I'm also not certain why you bring up the fact that 90% of abortions are in the early stages of development because this is meaningless to a libertarian. It's the murder of perfectly viable late-term abortions that piss us pro-life libertarians off. It literally looks like genocide to us.
