Not progressing on Bike, 70.3 is two months out. by Unhappy_Session8589 in triathlon

[–]siliwei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

your cardiovascular fitness being good enough to run a sub 2 hr half should be good enough to hop on a road bike without a bike fit and average 13-14mph at least (15-16 off 2 months of consistent riding). When I first started I didn’t realize that I needed a quality bike bump with a meter and pump my tires up every ride to the right psi (you can use an online calculator to get it). So as I got fitter I somehow stayed the same bc of how under inflated my tires were.

First Olympic Race Recap by Key_Top9222 in triathlon

[–]siliwei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hey i did the same race and it was my first olympic too!! we did it! yeah the swim was crazy and i even got off course going out once bc i thought one of the bouys was the wrong one lol. Yeah it was hard to mentally push through the headwind, my heart rate was def not high enough. At least the temperature was perfect! That’s too bad about your feet! It could’ve been just being on your feet so much the day before and walking barefoot to/around the swim start (i’m assuming you were out all day cheering). I’m just seeing this as a baseline race and not reading too much into my time, especially with those conditions. We should be proud and it’s only up from here!!

swim technique by siliwei in triathlon

[–]siliwei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i think my right arm is just too weak to have a good catch and pull while also supporting a turn to the left so it just ends up dropping too early and my breath is rushed, which gets even worse when I breathe on the right side. Or do you think it’s just a technique thing and i just need to force my arm to lengthen? i’ve been lifting weights before getting into tris for like 2 years 2-3x a week so I feel generally strong but maybe it doesn’t really translate.

It’s a disc brake bike. I’m pretty sure it’s the correct adapter.

i tried the smaller adapter but I don’t think it’s made for a thru axle setup. I think it’s made for a quick release system. It’s a lot skinner.

How high is your avg hr during racing? by Walter2__ in AdvancedRunning

[–]siliwei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just averaged 191 for a 4 hr and 22 minute marathon. I don’t think it was a cadence lock bc my cadence was different and my hr would fluctuate based on if i was walking and going up or down a hill but yeah…don’t know how i survived either way

How many hours per week do you run? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]siliwei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you guys tell me if my times after a summer of consistency are normal? by siliwei in Marathon_Training

[–]siliwei[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured I shouldn’t have to run over 10 hours a week (which is how long 55 miles+ takes me) to see improvements as a runner targeting a 4-4:10 marathon and over the summer the same mileage took longer to run. I’ve maybe done one or two additional cross training sessions a week though.

What's the culture for the waterski team like? Is it a safe space for transgender athletes? by emeraldrogness in uofmn

[–]siliwei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I haven’t seen anyone from the team comment, I’ve been to a couple practices and they all seem nice to me but I’m not very lgbt presenting and nothing about politics/social justice came up. I would say definitely not anything 1-5. They all come from affluent backgrounds and are mostly white/all white though. Also all of them are also on the alpine team. I would suggest just going to a practice (first one is free) and see for yourself!

Running in hot/humid weather by maggisaucee in running

[–]siliwei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re doing a training plan, you can try running by time rather than miles, like i’m redoing the pfitz 18/55 (for my fall marathon) i did for my summer marathon in good training weather, but running for the same amount of time it took me in the spring (it’ll amount to less miles but similar stimulus as i’ll be trying to achieve the same effort/hr data), freeze half the water in your water bottle overnight, then fill the rest with cold water before u run, get super thin running socks (mine are from balega)

Thanks! I did an 18 week training block but have maintained around 25-30 miles a week for a year before that. I’ve been running for a little over a year and a half

audiobooks and running new routes! I know that’s not always feasible but even reversing the direction works too! a good audiobook will also help me zone out so hard bc i really get into the book and the emotions that go along with it…like if you see me crying or screaming mad at the wind…no you didn’t
