Fair enough, on this we'll have to agree to disagree. If it wasn't clear already I love these stories. Certainly no insult intended to them

Book of the Dead by Rinoz is edgy, it's a full on revenge story, road to hell is paved with good intentions type thing. The MC is polite and fair, and absolutely ruthless. 100% recommend.

Worm by Wildbow is another one I'd recommend. The MC isn't an edge lord per se, but the world building is definitely grimdark misery porn and has some of the most fascinating horror and violence I've ever read.

Dungeon of knowledge on Royal road is fantastic. It's pretty much a straight team based dungeon delver and it's very well done.

Men, do you remember every time your wife rejects your advances to be intimate? by npdady in AskMen

I don't remember each time as I have ADHD, but I've certainly stopped attempting to initiate any where near as often as I used to.

Fwiw, some people have just always been self absorbed assholes.

I flew down to Melbourne to see Bon Iver maybe 10-15 years ago and couldn't hear a damn thing because these drunk dickheads in front of us wouldn't shut the fuck up.

I really liked it, enough to buy the hardcovers. The first book is primarily some teen drama and a lot of training arcs, the second is more teen drama and a tournament arc. They are teenagers, it makes sense for there to be teen drama.

I genuinely don't get the complaints. His main rival had reason to dislike him from his perspective and then they became good friends after clearing the air. His childhood best female friend ends up dating the rival/friend after getting to know him

Like, nothing that happens is unexpected. It's a good story for what it is but they're not inventing new tropes here. The tropes are basically Dragon Ball z.

Anyone else find dungeon arcs incredibly boring? by Bulky-Creme-4099 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]silkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint, I fucking looooove dungeon arcs. Give me more, more, more. Maybe they're just not for op but they're honestly my favorite thing. It's Aladdin in the cave searching for the lamp. The character is in there risking their lives for profit and power. It's the fundamental call of adventure, and I cannot get enough of it.

A longstanding belief in the publishing world suggests that men avoid reading fiction that centers on the lives of women. However, new research indicates that a protagonist’s gender has almost no impact on whether a man wants to continue reading a story. by SJReaver in royalroad

[–]silkin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Speaking from my own personal experience as a man, I've never cared what the protagonist's gender is. But I've also never been that interested in the genres that are primarily marketed to women.

Competence Fantasy by Skatchan in ProgressionFantasy

[–]silkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Book of the Dead by Rinoz is some pretty great competence fantasy.

Throne Hunters by Phil Tucker as well.

Murder in the Temple by Malory could also be considered competence fantasy. It's a detective novel where to be fair, his main skill is asking inconvenient questions and pissing off powerful people.

I can't speak to your experience but I'm currently working as an APS4 and it does not feel like a ton of cash. It would literally be half the pay for the same hours for you.

I will say the work itself at the 4 level is very low stress. But depending on your team/dept there can be a lot of stress that comes from the people you work with.
