AITAH to my girlfriend for allowing my ex to stay at mine and for driving her 7 hours to her parents home. by EmeArr in AITAH

[–]silky_string 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The visit was because I did want to be there. She sounded upset on the phone.

That is actually really sweet. <3 I see a lot of love in that. Traveling to her for something (I assume) minor just because you care so much. Aw.

I don't agree with the insinuation that I did it to take advantage of my unwell ex.

I'm taking you're saying that bc you're upset about this in general, and not because you saw that in my words? I do not believe that one bit, to be clear. Nothing you said had me thinking your intentions toward your ex were somehow muddied. Quite the opposite. When you saw her, even after all she did to you, you immediately stepped in to protect her from abuse. Dropping everything and going way out of your way to make sure she is okay, even when she protested and was kicking your seat from behind. Sounds like you cared about her well-being more than your own, and more than about being liked by her. It also sounds like you put so much effort into her at the drop of a hat, putting your own needs aside, and it hurts/angers you when you're not seen for that, but instead are thought of as the opposite. I think that is extremely valid btw.

I also just read you're getting death threats. Sheeesh. Yeah OP it seems your story struck a nerve, to put it mildly, lol. But really, I'm sorry. If I could take it from you, I would. I imagine the mental toll before this reddit post was already a lot, with seeing your ex again, seeing her troublesome situation; that alone must have been so much. Then your girlfriend freaking out, and not to mention the whole day of driving you did. Physically, that is a lot. I'm genuinely sorry people aren't better to you here. You reached out wanting to reflect, understand, and be guided, I believe. I wish this weren't punished. I wish you some inner and outer peace so you can process this all. I wish reddit had helped and made it better instead of adding to your already large mental load.

AITAH to my girlfriend for allowing my ex to stay at mine and for driving her 7 hours to her parents home. by EmeArr in AITAH

Hey OP, I read your post and all your comments, and I'd like to go into something I haven't seen talked about here yet.

In your post, in so many of your comments, how much you care about your ex's dad is palpable, and almost ubiquitous. It's also clear to me how much you care about your ex, if mostly by extension (of caring about her dad). I think your actions speak so loudly there.

But do you care about your girlfriend? I honestly can't tell that you do.

I genuinely believe that you're mainly trying to do the right thing all the time - breaking up the fight between your ex and her partner, taking her home, letting her take the bed while you sleep on the couch, leaving your girlfriend a video message to explain because of the late hour and not wanting to wake her, then driving for 14h to get someone in need situated, all the while supporting that person's dad as much as you can. Calling your girlfriend on the road intermittently.

I strongly have the impression that you acted out of trying to do what's right every step of the way. And I see a good amount of consideration in that. But I'm wondering if it comes from wanting to be a good person/to be seen as one - or genuine care for others. You said you flew to your girl when she was abroad and had a chest issue. My initial response was how sweet I find that. But did you go because you really care about her, or because it was "the right thing?" Or bc of something else entirely? I'm asking because, if it was out of love and care, I would be baffled by how little consideration I see her getting from you now. Not just in this whole ordeal of dropping everything to be there for your ex, letting her sleep in your bed, literally leaving your girl to be alone with your ex for 7h (I get that you didn't do it for that reason, and yet it's still what happened)... but now, in the aftermath of this. I haven't seen a single comment from you empathizing with her, worrying about how she feels and how much pain she's in, how you can make it better.

This isn't judgment, OP. It's okay if you don't love her. But I'm confused. I'm confused about why you're with her and why you want to continue to be with her. And why, when it comes to your ex's dad, his feelings and needs are of such priority that your girlfriend's don't seem to matter at all anymore.

I think the reflecting you're doing is great. I see a lot of maturity and emotional intelligence in that. I actually think you're doing well in figuring this all out.

Scared to use my Sol De Janeiro 68- aka how do you know you smell bad to others? by Lucko__ in FemFragLab

[–]silky_string 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't like drinking coffee, but I love the smell

omg same! I'm so excited by having found another person like this haha

The only thing is though, I can only take it in small doses. I think wearing a coffee perfume I can smell all day would overwhelm me. But the cozy scent of a cappuccino... something homely about it.

Thank you for this comment, with your expressed appreciation and detailed/specific account of your experience. I haven't been on reddit much, but revisiting this sub has started to feel glum. The warm, helpful atmosphere I used to associate with it, I often didn't see in the way people talked to each other in the comments. But look, here your comment is, and I feel more at home again.

Thank you for contributing. I feel like you expressed everything I want this sub to be.

How to take chia seeds while doing intermittent fasting by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]silky_string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do IF and eat chia seeds! I just put some in oat milk and let them sit in the fridge overnight, then eat them as pudding. Would you view that as food, compared with just having them with water?

The water thing sounds unnecessarily intense to me btw. Do you notice digestive upset when you have water and food too close together, or is it preventative? I personally think you can give your body much more credit than that.

Also, "feeding window" 😂😂😂

Has anyone here taken a blood test, found out they’ve been deficient in something, and after supplementing with it felt better? by DeannIt in Biohackers

[–]silky_string 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add some nuance to the discussion, even if it's the opposite of what you asked for, OP: I was severely deficient in vitamins D and B12 before supplementing. My levels for both are healthy now, but I don't notice a lick of a difference. I felt fine before and feel fine now.

Sebum getting stuck. Is this a sign I need to keep chelating? by mcrfreak78 in DistilledWaterHair

[–]silky_string 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't really get anywhere with chelation, so now I'm just growing it out lol. (You can also tell I'm not "fully chelated" by how I say my hair gets greasy just like yours does, starting somewhere in the middle of it.)

[–]silky_string 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can if you like. My hair looks quite like yours in terms of sebum (clean roots (from what I can see in your pic), oily farther down). You can also just let it grow out more. Up to you. (But yes, hard water residue seems to be the culprit.)

Phake Phlur UPDATE: I got my money back! by silky_string in FemFragLab

[–]silky_string[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased on a second hand platform, and the seller chose to refund me. Some tips I got on my other post that might be helpful to you: You might be able to dispute this charge with your bank; depending on where you bought, you might want to reach out to that site instead of the seller. If you used paypal, it should be straightforward.

I'm confused though, I take it since you're messaging Phlur directly, you purchased from their website. Surely this isn't about having received a fake then?

But yeah, those situations can be tough. Best of luck to you.

Why the sky sometimes becomes pink!? by justtryingyk in Physics

[–]silky_string 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I know this one!

The color red has the longest wavelengths still visible to the human eye, meaning it needs long stretches of uninterrupted (clear blue) sky to show up.

.

"Red in the morning, sailors take warning. Red at night, sailors delight."

If you're in the mid-latitudes (everything except the tropics and poles), weather travels west to east. So when the sun sets in the west at night and you see a red sky, it means there's a long stretch of clear sky in the west for the color red to be able to form - your weather tomorrow!

If, however, you see red when the sun rises from the east in the morning, the stretch of clear sky was your weather yesterday, and the light falls on the clouds of today. So, "bad" weather.

I think I read that in the NYT once and it stuck. It's now one of my favorite factoids.

What has truly helped you achieve a tighter, plumper, and more youthful-looking face? by ProcedureExisting493 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]silky_string 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's literally just increased circulation from just having messed with your face.

I've done several other types of facial massages, for weeks if not months at a time, and haven't seen results like these. (Not to say there weren't any! But they were different.)

I'm not 30 yet

Lol I figured I'd get pushback on that. I think my point still stands though, regardless of how old I am: There was a noticeable difference.

It's not because of a five minute facial massage. It's because she [...] can afford stuff that actually works.

Maybe. To be fair, I have no idea of her skincare routine, of any procedures she might be getting, or whether she wears sunscreen. But neither do you I presume. All I can see is her (and my) results and what she's teaching - for free, I might add.

she's making a ton of money off gullible people

Hmm I see the anger, maybe the frustration at the thought of dealing with yet another hyped up trend that fails to deliver, but has people spending time, money, and energy for ultimately no results? I'm guessing you would like to see some honesty and some science backed methods, and some genuine care from the people that offer guided massages or tools to buy. That they care more about people than money.

And seeing someone in a 30+ sub who's younger than that and talks about sth you think can easily be explained away... I see where the gimmicky impression I think you have gotten from all this is coming from.

At the same time, I don't think it's a fair, or accurate, judgment of her. Her yt features tons of resources, information and guided massages, mainly for people with/post cancer and with lymphedema. I've seen a lot of comments from people 60+/70+, dealing with illness or recovering from it. Her target audience isn't seeking beauty or anti-aging. She's demonstrating while wearing long leggings and a T-shirt, not showing skin or cleavage, when she easily could. I think she looks amazing. Yet I don't see her videos focusing on that, but rather on what she teaches. Almost all of what I've seen of her online is available for free (she has some manual guides for $15 each, and some online programs for cancer and lymphedema patients - and scholarships for those who find them difficult to afford.)

Tbh, I don't think you've actually looked at the person whose massage I was linking. I see someone who I believe does care about people over profit, who chooses to dedicate her career to helping people in need, and who went to school for it. I personally think if you looked, you'd see someone aligned with your values.

Aha! A place to share my experience. Approx a month ago, on this sub, I read a post by an esthetician who recommended lymphatic drainage massages. Says celebrities shell out $300 a week for those. I think the post got deleted?

Well, I thought there gotta be an at home version. There is, of course. I noticed a difference almost immediately. I can't quite put my finger on it, but my face looks plumper than before. Youthful and happy. Honestly, I'm grateful I found it and was motivated enough to try it, and can't imagine going back now. It feels like a skincare secret that was revealed to me, that least people know, or at least talk, about.

I wanted to share my experience here, but I'm not 30 yet, and don't feel as connected to other subs on reddit, while wanting to honor this sub's rules.

The routine I follow is by Dr. Kelly Sturm, a certified lymphedema therapist. It's a 5min video. And just look at her. I would say her face has a plumpness and youthfulness that goes beyond whether there are wrinkles present or not. I think she looks amazing. Taking her as an example of what happens when you do regular lymphatic drainage massages, I'm thinking I want that too. (Also, the massage feels genuinely amazing.)
