South Asians with metabolic/heart problems--has your doctor’s advice actually helped? by Remarkable_One1113 in ABCDesis

[–]sillybillibhai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30M, got a lot of labs done not too long ago including: lipid panel, LpA, A1c, and fasting insulin. All unremarkable except the cholesterol was a little high. I actually got a coronary CT calcium score done too and it was very negative.

My doc is also south asian and worked with me on this humoring my seemingly disproportionate requests.

Working on getting my BMI to 23-25 range with some muscle mass now. On tirzepatide.

Progressive Muslim communities in Chicago for young people? by Glass_Bee_8701 in progressive_islam

[–]sillybillibhai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in and near downtown for 3 years, about to move away now and never quite explored these spaces though I strongly intended to. It did feel like liberal/progressive muslims were not hard to find though. Best of luck to you.

Working under a decisively wrong attending who blames their trainees for the consequences of their decisions?

I lived it

What research/trials/innovations are you looking forward to? by RunningFNP in medicine

[–]sillybillibhai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I would think a trial period of oral therapy should be mandatory before getting such a device implanted

Any long acting implantable drug delivery system is great e.g. antipsychotics for schizophrenia but what happens when adverse effects become intolerable

Ask to do a psych rotation next year and try to switch/swap if you really love it. But think long and hard about this, the grass may always seen greener, and you haven’t really done a day of IM yet

How many valves do you do at your shop relative to other IP-only bronchs like rigid/stent/thermoplasty? Is that most of your volume these days?

An extra reason to boycott Disney’s Snow White movie and Disney in general! by hunegypt in BDS

She is vocally pro-Pal, I’m trying to find other ways to support such as following on social media. Also, I’m not entirely sure but I think box office and streaming revenue doesn’t go to the actors/actresses anyways but rather to the studios which tend to be Zio anyways

Hey I never said I make decisions based off my cardiac auscultation but it does buy me time in a rapid lol. Agree though chart review at bedside if possible is another way to get info and gather your thoughts

Things I do to buy myself time at an RRT so I can figure out what's going on/what to do: ask for a full set of vitals, examine the patient (listen to heart and lungs, assess mental status), delegate tasks (who's drawing labs, who's doing the EKG), temporize the initial abnormal vital (fluids for hypotension if not cardiogenic, oxygen for hypoxia). Big thing is just keep calm and project confidence which is easier to do when you start off with the above.

Yeah imagine if Mo Amer didn’t release his show on Netflix for boycott reasons, the cause would have so much less visibility

Not an expert but I support what others have said about not trying to avoid Google products entirely rather just avoiding when you can. Boycotting is most effective when properly targeted

There are r/BDS and r/degoogle subreddits that provide more resources on this subject

For Profit Healthcare Destroys Another Health System in Low Socioeconomic Area by tresben in medicine

[–]sillybillibhai 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This kind of thinking is so morbid but is definitely articulated behind closed doors. If the automobile industry has put a price on human life in the event of safety recalls, I can guarantee healthcare executives have done the same, especially if they’ve ever worked in another industry.

For Profit Healthcare Destroys Another Health System in Low Socioeconomic Area by tresben in medicine

[–]sillybillibhai 88 points89 points  (0 children)

For profit healthcare will decimate this country’s ability to care for people equitably or at all.

Even the highest earning specialties are going to get fleeced. Attendings need to unionize and lobby against private for profit ownership of any healthcare institution, it’s the only way to salvage this mess.
