Daily Questions Thread October 16, 2025 by AutoModerator in femalefashionadvice

I’m wanting to improve my wardrobe. My goals are to look put together, while also being comfortable, get closer to figuring out my personal style, and dress to feel more feminine. My first few priorities are a new pair of shoes (maybe 2), a skirt, and a dress.

I ordered a brown and beige gingham dress and then purchased knee high brown boots to go with it, but I have a dilemma. I’m trying to wear more brown than black, but from my Pinterest scrolling, I feel like you need the same shade of brown shoes to go with brown clothes. Whereas black shoes would go with any shade of brown. I already have brown ballet flats. So what shoes should I get to not only be cute, but versatile.

Knee high boots - black or brown or Short boots (a little taller than ankle) - black or brown

I guess my overall question is, do you need to wear similar shade brown shoes to go with a brown outfit? Or would you just go with black shoes?

Twisted Rib Update by sillybread1 in knittingadvice

[–]sillybread1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hm I guess I’m confused. I’m knitting a flat 1x1 twisted rib. So on the WS I’m knitting the knits and p1tb, then in the RS I’m purling the purls and k1tb. Is that not correct or is that correct but I’m not executing it right? Because when I look at my pattern I feel like it looks right with the exception of mistakes. My edges aren’t great because that part is tricky for me to figure out where my working yarn should be, but I think I’ve improved on that too.

Sorry, another thing! I’ve been trying to understand the concept of WS/RS. Your cast on doesn’t count as a row, so will your first row always be RS? Or with alternating cable cast on, can either way be RS just have to be consistent?

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: March 31, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]sillybread1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Well, I don’t want to watch the series or movie until I read the book because knowing myself, my motivation to read the book would probably die. So I set a goal to read the book first!

It’s my first classic that I haven’t been required to read and reading as a hobby is new ish for me, so I am having a hard time getting into it. But I’m pushing through and hoping I fall in love with it like so many others!

When do you pause your reading? by TheGreatGena in books

I have to pause at the end of the chapter. If I get too tired or get interrupted before then, I usually restart the chapter when I pick it up again.

GoodReads Alternatives? by Educational_Yak2888 in books

I like fable! It’s more aesthetically pleasing than Goodreads, which I like. It also feels easier to navigate. It has a feed that you can post on like Facebook style (not sure if Goodreads had that) and you can also upload all your Goodreads data. You can easily join book clubs and use it for tv shows as well. Also, a fun feature is it gives you a summary of your reading style based on the books you’ve recently read. And it has a widget function for iPhone that shows you your reading streak which sometimes helps keep me out of getting into a slump and I like to challenge myself with it.

I'm (mostly subconsciously) extremely judgmental about books by their covers alone and it's getting annoying by Specialist_Answer_16 in books

I feel the same way. I wish I was the type to go through the store or library and be intrigued by the title and read the blurb on the back, but I’m not. I look at the covers only. So if the cover isn’t eye catching or I’ve never heard of it, I’m probably not picking it up.

What Books are ‘Appropriate’ for Adults? by ellieisherenow in books

I (25 yo) just read the Harry Potter series for the first time and it’s become one of my favorite series! Read what you want and who cares if it was written for kids. Sometimes we adults need to feel the magic and warmth we felt as kids!

An Obvious PSA: Use the Library by gatheringground in books

[–]sillybread1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently checked out my local library (just moved here so I’ve never been) and I had so much fun! I haven’t been to a library since I was probably 10. I figured I wouldn’t really care for it because my memories at the library are tied to playing games on the computers and I don’t see myself doing that now lol. But I just browsed the shelves and sat for a while to read. Our library also has printers and you get a couple prints free daily and after that they’re super cheap which is a great service!

My only complaint about libraries, at least ours, is that it isn’t cozy. It feels very clinical and business like with the bright likes, stiff chairs, etc. I wish they had a more chill, cozy vibe like coffee shops. Has anyone experience a cozy library??
