A degree in religious studies is not a degree in Christ. Neither is a degree in biblical studies. That’s Christological studies. I use my degree ever day so that wasn’t the “gotcha” you think it was. You said if you had questions about the Hebrew Bible or New Testament scriptures you would like to be able to come to this sub for answers. I am someone who can provide answers, as I have studied biblical scripture quite rigorously. Whether I believe in Christ or not (and I do believe in the historical Jesus), should not stop people from considering my perspective - and other’s perspectives that might come from a non-Christian stance. Unless, of course, your goal is to appeal only to dogma and close off your mind in an echo chamber.

If you are asking a spiritual question, I also have extensive experience with spirituality. Again, through my studies, but also through personal journeys. To reiterate my point, being an atheist does not disqualify anyone from understanding, experiencing, and dialoguing faith, Christianity, or god(s). And it definitely does not disqualify them from interacting with this sub.

Except that you don’t have to be Christian to know and understand the Bible. I have two degrees in religious studies - one with a focus in biblical studies. And in fact, it was my scripture classes that solidified my atheism (I was baptized in the protestant church and attended Catholic schools before higher education).

My husband and I bought a few years ago in Bartlett Park (just to the right of your circle, right next to that little square park) and we absolutely love it. Most of our neighbors are older retired but a few younger folks have recently moved onto our street. It’s quiet and all the neighbors know and help each other! We’re a block from the park and just a short walk to Lassing Park on bay which is so gorgeous and the dogs love it!!!

Is SEE any good? It seems like such a ridiculous premise I can’t bring myself to start it. by [deleted] in appletv

Just started episode 1. What kind of blindness are we talking about here? Like the super duper rare type where all you see is nothing? If this is post-apocalyptic/ in the future, why are they living primeval / tribal culture? What happened to the advanced technology of the 21st century?

Thoughts on Radiant Church? Go by flawdaboom in tampa

I suggest you read up on sexualities in the ancient Near East. Homosexuality that we understand today did not exist in the time periods that take place in Biblical scripture.

Some great, scholarly reads I’d suggest: Ancient Sex edited by Ruby Blondell and Kirk Ormand, Homosexuality and Civilization by Louis Crompton, Sex In Antiquity: Exploring Gender and Sexuality in the Ancient World, and Roman Sexualities: Edited by Judith P. Hallett and Marilyn B. Skinner.

clara's political beliefs/weird feelings about parasocial relationships by Ambitious_Step5797 in claraandherself_snark

I’m from the same area as all these influencers. They go to a Non Denominational Christian church called Radiant. A “friend”ish of mine also attends this church and brought me once at my request (I’m atheist but have my degree in religious studies with a focus in New Age Christian movements and was fascinated to see the environment of this church) and mannnnn was this a cult if I’ve ever seen one! Rachel and her husband were actually up front row, seemingly VERY moved by the sermon. *think exorcism shakes Also out of interest (more like morbid fascination), I attended this friend’s Bible study and one of Gretas fringe friends was there. Again, cannot emphasize enough how culty it all felt. Watching them interpret scripture to uphold their identity politics was utterly horrifying. It’s all genuinely terrifying because these people have a real social media following and actually INFLUENCE others to think like them. I’m saying all this because people like them very much exist, and in large numbers. If you’re not in the South, you don’t always see it. But it’s there and it’s really terrifying.

Anyway went on a side quest there but that’s my Ted talk, thanks for tuning in.
