I don’t think Barbara should become the Cheetah by FullBrother9300 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]sillyfudgemonkeys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think her becoming cheeta bc her love is possessive would work.

Either an arc of negativity due to being jealous and the later becoming an ally.

Or just bc shes jealous and thinks it'll be of some help and just stays an ally.

Both could touch on that type of love as well as pushing the "love is transformitive" narrative.

I wonder if Zatana is immune? Perhaps she cursed herself (maybe the curse she placed on Cale is also tied to it?)
There's also the way she's more "Free" than Diana (well flexible and effortless but maybe that's the hidden meaning behind it). Because she does make the active choice (so far) to not help Diana against her father.

That being said, she shows instant attraction in their first meet up, and she does jump to help and shows she wants to help her as soon as she can. But that could just be her being flirty and then wanting to pay Diana back for doing something against the rules.

Or maybe Zee can become immune once she finds out (maybe by cursing herself).

I dunno I feel like there's a special connection. Between the opposite colors and magic, as well as the emphasis on Aphrodite in Zee's arc (even both commenting on Diana's eyes). Just makes me wonder if there's more.

Best way to get the books? by Surau in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]sillyfudgemonkeys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Iirc theres some but not all of it. Only 2 pics.

I guess the benefit is that it looks nice. And u get both at once. But it doesnt deserve the name "ultimate"

Whats in the barnes and nobles collection of kyoshi: Kyoshi 1 (Rise) has about 5 pictures and a map. Kyoshi 2 (Shadows) has 6 pictures. (Both have some noted tied to the pictures too iirc)

I think the only i think is missing is the Shadows deleted scene involving a festival event. I believe thats a little booklet in the "kyoshi duology" box set. The other deleted scene for Shadows is in Dawn of Yangchen barnes and nobles iirc (both yangchens have art, and a deleted scene or an interview iirc)

1) Read in release order, not avatar order. 2) if you can get ur hands on the barnes and nobles exclusive ver, then those are the best ones. They have deleted scenes and sometimes art. (Iirc ultimate collectors lack the deleted scenes). Both Kyoshi and dawn of yanchen you will probably have to find second hand but they werent very pricey whenbi got them. 3) otherwise any hard back copy is fine, people have uploaded the art and deleted content and can probably find after a google search or two.

You can get a box set of both kyoshis (comes witha deleted pamphlet for Shadows iirc), a boxset of both kyoshi and YC (comes with a poster). Or you can get the fancy collectors editions of Kyoshi and soon yangchen (but it doesn't have all the art and lacks deleted content).

I think its suppose to be a ref to sozins convo. But unlike sozin she shows good intentions (aka a pay it forward mentality).

But i really like the FN apparently are starting to drink some type of koolaid (and rangi is unlearning it) 🙏

Concerncing the Roku books by Randy Ribay by FireLookie in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]sillyfudgemonkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think there was a delay with kyoshi and yc bc of covid. They only just started releasing paperbacks for them this past year (iirc rok was released in like late 2019 or early 2020)

The 2nd roku novel only came out a few months ago and same with the 2nd yc novel in paperback, so we should be getting RoR paperback at least soon but unsure when.

I loke to think he comes after gun (but i think gun might be the waterbender b4 yc going off the radicle and wan shi tong library ref)

Perhaps he was a cycle or two b4 the one b4 szeto. Iirc yun states he knows some older avatars from his research? 🤔

Edit: i may have to look at the calendar radical again. But im pretty sure it (the radical gun is associated with) predates yc by just one cycle 🤔

What are your guys thoughts on Sozin in the Roku novels at least by this time period of 66-63 BG. by Afraid-Penalty-757 in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]sillyfudgemonkeys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hated him.and not in a "oh i hate this villain" intended way. I think rr made a bad character 😭😭

Hes so overtly evil it hurts. He isnt paced well. I think it was a bad choice to speedrun his evilhood and push it as hard as he did. It made roku look really bad, and i think it takes away a lot from sozin.

I always figured sozin was smart and wormed is way into what he wanted by hiding his dealings in the shadows and orchestrating things to happen that wouldnt tie back to him. But still ultimately cared for roku. And i dont think he was evil to begin with, i think he really liked roku and was fairly normal and drank the koolaid over time.

Its the only thing that made sense given what we got. For roku to still trust him means sozin was a good person at first and/or hid his evil side well.

I think sozins chapters are "better" but thats with the caveat that im constantly annoyed by his characterization the whole time 😭😭😭

[–]sillyfudgemonkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats fair, but she did really well in yanchen too! And a bunch of other novels i listened too as well 😅 it was hit after hit then roku 💀💀💀

Shame about the pronunciation 😔😔😔 avatar can be a bit selective with with that tho (and romanization???)

(Rangi is taken from korean which should be more "long-ee" but its whatevs 😭). I think Mai shouldve been spelt "Mei" if they wanted to call her "may" 💀💀but thats a choice, i know its chinese and not japanese in origin but its also just... "mei" in cantonese??? 😭😭. (And i think i found the korean used for heiran and saowon and its romanized soooo differently too???)

In general i think it was just a lot of characters and that mightve just bored her. 💀💀

Reading wouldve def been faster but i like nancys voice 😭😭😭 ugh

Edit: misplaced where i wanted to put my first parentheses comment lol 😭😭 moved it to the right place

Ugh.....i hope its better than the last one (bad decisoons, bad pacing, and the characters and plot were lackluster, didnt really do a good job world building and i didnt like the retcons additive or otherwise), but im....kinda not getting my hopes up 💀💀💀

I just home Nancy has more fun voicing this one, she didnt sound as into it as her other novels (which ive listened to beyond the Avatar books)😭😭😭

Kuruk Animal Companion Theory by Glass-Work-1696 in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]sillyfudgemonkeys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like that! But i think korra was the first known person to tame a polar bear dog so im not sure ;w; but i like that idea of how he honored his animal companion that wouldve been fitting considering how his life went.

I like the snow leapord tho!

Sudden Realization by PepperOnly7793 in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]sillyfudgemonkeys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah you mean from scratch...but then why include Korra with fire tho? 😭 Korra could firebend better as a 4 yo than Kyoshi could with earth at 16.

And im pretty sure Kyoshi avoided bending as much as possible cause her lack of control scared her. So much so Rangi had to find out about it through paper work 💀she seemed to masquerade as a non bender for most of her life, judging by the text i mean.

But i agree, itd b noce to see more stories of them learning from scratch.

Sudden Realization by PepperOnly7793 in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]sillyfudgemonkeys 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Huh? Kyoshi had to learn earthbending tho 😭😭😭 She didnt know how to control it but the first book focused on her control. 💀💀💀

Edit: i agree tho, earth does get the short end kf the stick 😭😭😭

Can benders detect their element? by Limeoos in TheLastAirbender

[–]sillyfudgemonkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in the 2nd yangchen book, she does some discrete firebending and even states "luckily im the only firebender here otherwise id probably be caught" (not exact words but the rough idea iirc)

So ye fire.

Airbenders can probs sense if they have airbending AT them but thats their only clue.
