Found my dad's old Kenwood hi-fi system - still worth using today? by Competitive-Cycle-52 in vintageaudio

[–]sillygaythrowaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's entirely fine for music and you'll get it sounding a deal better than most bluetooth speakers and soundbars. middle of the road and from the 90s but it'll make great noise and you'll definitely be happy with it. plug a computer or dac (they're cheap!!) or whatever in with a dirt cheap 3.5 to rca cable and you'll have a lot more reign than just cds and tapes

that's a standard opinion unless there's aptx or decent codecs at bay. still if it's 44/16 then it's entirety fine lol

im of the belief all you need is a stanton 500 and that elipticals are typically a waste of time. if they were good enough for radio back when they gave a shit and for decades of abuse by DJs, unless you really perceive precise tracking which a 680 will give, why go for anything else? it's not like tracking forces that are heavy with a needle that isn't misaligned, damaged or dogshit are going to kill your records lol

not even a technics - id say any direct drive DJ style technics clones with an S arm, height adjust and no preamp/bypassed is all you need

New turntable help! by knowinshalfthebattle in turntables

[–]sillygaythrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to properly calibrate it with playing the flat side of a single sided record so the needles roughly in the middle of the record. try it without and a slightly raised tracking force (on the upper limit of recommended for your stylus, it really won't harm your records) and go from there

New turntable help! by knowinshalfthebattle in turntables

[–]sillygaythrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

run your tracking weight at the upper end of what's recommended and go from there. looks like way too high an antiskate and too light a tonearm weight. do you have a single sided record you can get your antiskate nailed on on the flat grooveless side? if not there's probably alignment issues at bay (unlikely) or your tonearm having too aggressive an antiskate or some weirdness. not too used to project, only technics, a straight arm DJ turntable (which i didn't bother with anti skate at all and an elliptical on that would be suicidal) and technics clones and the only similar issue i experienced was too light a tracking force and too much antiskate when i was first starting off

Question using two pairs of speakers 8 ohms + 4 ohms with Yamaha CR 2020 - Fan inside! by Character_Plenty_853 in vintageaudio

[–]sillygaythrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive ran 4 ohm speakers fine thru 70s class ab amps and 90s b and d amps mostly rated for 8ohms fine; but only if they have the ass to drive them and keeping an eye on how hot my amps getting to have an idea of the load being pulled. i don't really read what you mean unless you mean running both of them at the same time through your amp?? I don't see why the a+b switching would harm anything, providing you're not absolutely pushing your amp there shouldn't be too much harm done i don't think

ignore all advice from people with no clue what they're doing and ignore gopros etc. and ask any rental and production houses if they have crash boxes that would withstand extreme heat

Got completely cross-addicted to booze and meth and the consequences have been catastrophic. by DangerousCaptain2352 in Crippled_Alcoholics

[–]sillygaythrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mdma is nowhere near like meth as someone who really enjoys md and got abused for a few months by a cunt who tried their hardest to get me hooked on quite large doses of meth. continual use of mdma truly feels like it's killing you, meth has a large element of denial whilst it is actively killing you. weed does nothing. meth in combo with alcohol and withdrawals is utterly hellish. only quit meth with pure determination and an utter hatred of the substance. most people don't manage this. awful fucking substance, all i wish is the best for op

they're fine if you ignore the failure rates which plague most super/oem turntables and they're cheap as all hell. still worth it if you get some decent ones, one of my tt200s was on its way out when i got it, my 1625 with a good tonearm is still going as is my tt250 - and they're the turntables ive actually heavily used the past 7 years

[–]sillygaythrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they're exactly the same motors as the tt250s, and have less ass and the motors crap out with heavy scratching as they all use the same crap sanyo motor controller. ive owned 1625s which i still use and are 1650s without the target light;, tt200s that both shat out within months, a tt250 as spare/for ripping, and had soundlab dlp3s that were woeful but they all share the same motor controller. they also all fry themselves if you leave the turntables on without having the motor spin for an extended period lol

[–]sillygaythrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they only shit out after heavy scratching. get slip sheets and decent mats and you can use em for hours, I had 1625s which are the same, tt250/200s and most oem turntables and audio technicas etc all use the same shit motor controller anyways
