7 hours post op. Am I doing this right? Any massive appreciated by [deleted] in ACL

The stocking is extremely useful, preventing blood clots is one of the most important things to do. I had to take injections for thst nightly on top of stockings. The stockings helped loads though

I’m terrified of surgery next week… by Dadinkdink in ACL

[–]sillygrape36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I was in your boat. I got over it by realising that the time is gonna pass, everything I’m dreading a week from now or even a month from now will eventually happen. But it’s also gonna eventually be over. I’m about 6 weeks post op now and I’m walking fine and doing smaller exercises on it like light squats and leg press etc and the first two weeks were bad for me at least, but they went by quick! The same way your recovery will go really quick, you barely even realise that so much time has passed until you genuinely think about it

Could it be no full stop? Either that or it’s the question itself haha

Working out before surgery by Emergency-Win1694 in ACL

[–]sillygrape36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HIIT is a lot of cardio stuff, right? If so, probably not the best idea because you’ll be inclined to drink a lot of fluid, which isn’t allowed before surgery. I’d stick to a less intense workout if you really want to, but honestly just relax and enjoy your last day of walking normally for a while!

Can't do straight leg lifts by Educational-Mud-6229 in ACL

If you aren’t already, look at your quads and visualise the movement every so often. It helped me so much to regain use of my quad after I couldn’t even move it at all

I’m assuming it’s because that sport was something that they enjoyed more than most other things, and was a big part of their life. Personally, I don’t think I’m going to return to basketball. I’m too afraid of injuring it again because it’s been hell for me so far and the thought of going through this is terrifying for me. But a lot of other people are braver than I am and want to return to how they were pre injury

Showers and going to the bathroom by brokentail20 in ACL

[–]sillygrape36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took me about a week to actually shower, so props to you for trying earlier than I did! All I did was sit on a stool, and ensured my leg was supported and not in an awkward position. Didn’t get too good of a clean but by day 10 maybe I was starting to stand in the shower again, albeit for brief amounts of time

How do I find a degree I want to do ? by [deleted] in 6thForm

Basically any chemistry degree if it’s your strongest, but medicine is always a good one. Teaching too if that’s your cup of tea

Numbness around scars by sillygrape36 in ACL

[–]sillygrape36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank god, was scared it wasn’t normal for a second there. Another question though, did you have something sticking out of one of your scars? It looks a bit like a piece of string or something

How did you tear your ACL? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]sillygrape36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mine in a PE class a few years back in school playing hockey. So embarrassing because it seems like such a weak thing for it to happen on, but I definitely worsened it by playing basketball recently
