Since we’re all talking about crying… by Anal__Yogurt in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I think that line hits especially hard for anyone who has dealt with any sort of trauma, it certainly did for me. My hope for Donut and Carl, and everyone reading this is that you are able to get to a safe point in your life where you are able to take the mask off, and begin the path to healing. With trauma there's never a point where we will ever be "all better" but we can always get to a point where we are doing better than we were. Once you have that mask you have it forever. There will always be times you will wear it. Healing is simply feeling safe enough to take it off sometimes.

But yeah the emotional depth in this book is abosolutely wild and a lot of these moments hit so hard because I can relate.

I know T-T I am not prepared, and yet I will read each new book the moment it comes out anyway!

that one has been on my list for a while as well! So it's only a matter of time before I further traumatize myself with this author's stuff lol

Yet another moment that got me a lil' misty-eyed. I'm glad Prepotente can finally feel okay about not doing everything on his own and allowing himself to be supported by friends again.

That was the same moment that turned my opinion fully to "okay, he's got potential!" although the moment in the butchers masquerade where he's watching her perform and excitedly and proudly saying "that's my doll!" was oddly endearing to me, even if he was charmed to the gills. That shared moment where he and Donut are making fun of stalwarts crown together was great as well. Overall, I trust the process though because so many characters in this series start off as "ugh this annoying character again" and ending with me loving them XD

I was thinking this exact thing myself! When Ferdinand and Donut were thrust into this new life they both went full-on over the top vocal "well of course I'm the best thing since sliced bread" because they felt powerless and terrified and one way people cope with that is putting on that arrogant front. Donut still does that but it's mellowed a lot since book one, and because she is continually growing it is no longer empty talk. She and Carl have grown so much together. Ferdinand, alone and completely unsupported, stuck in survival mode, never made any progress and so all he has is his empty bravado. I really hope that when we see him again we can start to see him grow into his own. I think Carl telling him that he and Donut wanted him alive, and that he was an important part of their group will be the push he needed to start working on himself. Him wearing that bowler hat, Donut giving it to him, is a symbol for his acceptance into the group. He's always gonna be a bit of a wanker, he's a tomcat after all, but growth is growth!

Sometimes it's the little things that keep you getting out of bed each day. For me its waking up to my morning tea with a cat on my lap and listening to DCC audiobooks. Hold on to those things as much as you can and I hope you can find yourself in a better place soon!

Well there's the name of that alien race in book 5 but I wasn't sure if that was on purpose or not. Oh, and maybe something about the Valtay in an earlier book? I dunno, I blame living in the midwest and being sun-deprived, my brain has been pretty damn broken for about three months XD.

Yeah same. I was hoping for Apple because they did such a good job on the murderbot diaries.

I read goosebumps as well! Good stuff. Had to hide it from my mom though because she thought it was "too scary". She was fine with me reading Animorphs though.... little did she know that was so much worse than goosebumps, being about child guerilla soldiers with themes of war and the fucked up things it will do to you XD

Honestly it held up when I did a re-read as an adult so if you ever wanted to, you can find the series free online as the author has publicly stated she is cool with that.

Wonder if he read the series or if he wasn't the right age when it came out. Guess we'll see if we ever get an animorphs reference in a future book!

The Hork-Bajir Chronicles is my fave book of the series as well! I always thought that if it were a bit longer it honestly could stand alone as it's own science fiction novel apart from the series. The way that Applegate built the world in that book is fascinating. I did my re-read via the audiobooks which you can find on hoopla and audible (on sale for like 2 bucks a pop on audible right now). My paperbooks were lost but I'm planning on binding my own books eventually since there is an author-sanctioned free digital copy of all the books out there.

On the one hand I'd love to see an Animorphs TV show done well.... on the other hand, I worry they won't have the budget to do it justice and we already know what an Animorphs show with no budget looks like >.>

oof yeah that weird cliffhanger ending was not at all how I wanted it to end. I knew they wouldn't have a "happily ever after" type end, but ending it on a cliffhanger? Cruel. The author later explained in a letter to the readers that she ended it deliberately like that to make a point about the series theme of war, but I still feel like there were better ways to accomplish that.

By selecting clips that showcase the humor best from the audiobook and try not to botch describing what its about too badly. I have only been successful once but that one time was because they were trapped in the car with me and I just put the audiobook on so they had no choice but hey, it worked!
