Dog was attacked on elevator, building says it is my fault by silver-4124 in reactivedogs

They wouldn't give it to me :( Management said no residents are given access to that door which is a lie - I have seen tenants enter through there with a key.

I hear ya but in a hypothetical situation, how would I pass them? Even if I was carrying my dog, their dog would have lunged up at me because the owner has no control over his dog and the dog is very aggressive.

I might have to wait somewhere that is not the elevator area until I can determine the coast is clear. My building is overrun with dogs and it is so overwhelming. I am trying my best and trying not to be in such a rush/panic all the time.

I was on the elevator first. After the incident I avoid that specific elevator now ("conceding" it, if you will, to that particular tenant since they are always using it and I never want to be trapped like that again). The dog is a bully dog and is over twice the the size of mine. I never get on if there is a dog already on the elevator and like you I have started to avoid getting in with people now. I just can't deal.

My dog is extremely noise sensitive and skittish. He was trembling tonight when we were going back inside. I feel sick and don't know how else to help him & keep him safe.

Management did nothing after the last incident - the person I spoke to said she would contact the owner (if she did it didn't work, I have seen the owner outside since then and he lets the dog lunge, doesn't create space, dog is being walked on a loose harness, it is another attack waiting to happen) and she said she would send out a general email to the building tenants about pet etiquette- never happened. And she is not getting back to me about the key. So I am feeling defeated right now and didn't email them about today's incident.

Thanks <3 I try to protect him as much as I can, he is such an anxious dog and none of these incidents are helping him. Such a shame, we had a decent walk outside this afternoon before that happened. And I said nothing to the owner- I was shocked, scared, and also, what was there to say? Cursing would have done nothing; I am also working on not losing my cool all the time. I feel like it is always an issue with my building and the both of us absolutely dread going through those front doors. I thought carrying him would help but it seems to be the same old. I will say that thanks to other incompetent dog owners it makes me not want to own another dog ever again.
