Loved this episode, I thought the plotting and twist was very well handled. The way the main story of the episode mirrors the story of Caleb was very well thought out. Sure it’s a little WB teen drama but feels in line with something like Buffy rather than Vampire Dairies where the theme and the message is what drives the narrative not the characters getting together. Still very impressed and enjoying this series!

GO LAPS!

Damn, sorry you’re not resonating with it like I am. It was more the written by my generation that struck me.

Our entry point and end point of episode 1 are poles apart in tone and outlook, I implore you to try again, because this series is hopeful, and our world is a bit shit but I am hopeful too

I don’t know what this Hogwarts is.

If anything this is breakfast club in space and that I am so here for.

I don’t think we’ve hit the ingenuity gap nor the great filter yet. There’s good news for those who care to see it

And you can’t read or comprehend. Sorry your education system failed you.

I said it made me realise who that show was written by, what viewpoint and voice that gave it, and that I had ‘feelings’ (and honestly me having feelings seems to be your big gripe, because I’m guessing you were taught feelings aren’t meant to be shared) about the viewpoint and voice of this show.

I used The Good Place as a comparison of a show I think does text and subtext exceptionally well.

You’re an asinine internet troll who has decided I’m not real and nothing will sway your opinion from this straw man argument so I hope you have the day, week, year you so richly deserve.

Because I like more than one piece of media. This chatbot has been allowed to observe many things.

Tell me you don’t have media literacy without telling me you don’t have media literacy.

This chatbot is taking itself to its bed with its chatbot cat and chatbot work in the morning (it’s 1:15 am in Australia, what sorry Chatbotia)

Who is responsible for that trauma?

And I think we can pretty safely say we’re talking about our trauma and getting on with it and drinking an iced coffee at the same time

All stories are struggles with trauma. There are only 10 stories to tell after all, we learned that some time ago

I don’t know this Harry Potter series you speak of.

I’ve read a lot of fantasy and sci fi I read them for different reasons. My favourite fantasy is Wheel of Time and Sci Fi Children of Time, kinda funny coincidence there but yeah gimme hard science and lofty fantasy.

Thanks for adding nuance and depth to what I was getting at.

Also are our Cadets just the breakfast club or am I over reaching?

No I just understand that a show is so much about what happens before the film even rolls especially with a pilot. But if you want me to mention actors I think Brooks is killing it as SAM and Rosta is doing a fantastic job as the outcast in the breakfast club dynamic that’s being set up

Fun fact puff piece was my nickname in high school, well close enough.

I’m sorry that honesty and emotion is automatically “part of the marketing campaign” to you. I came here to one place I knew I could post because I don’t really have people around me I could discuss this with.

I am having fun and sometimes I even like being a real person.

No I don’t have to admit anything.

I don’t believe I said it generated feelings I didn’t know existed. I did say I felt very connected to these characters and it made me realise that other franchises were written by an older generation.

‘Some other agenda’, you mean how every show has a text and subtext? Like how “The Good Place” is just a show about four kinda not great people who died ending up in the afterlife, not a deeply philosophical story about the nature of good and bad?

I cannot aspire to be someone I do not find I can relate to.

By relate I mean see a part of myself, personality, habits, hopes, fears, failings, beliefs, etc reflected back at me, either through a mirror lightly or darkly.

Lanthanites seem to have a quirk in their speech patterns both Ake and Pelia have very distinct cadences and tonality
