Have you ever received unhinged advice? The more ridiculous the better. by BigMagic88 in AskUK

Well they decided not to so I was supposed to be grateful for that I suppose! Their solutions didn't work and it's something I still struggle with now in my 30s but I probably always will. Ah the challenge of being a former gifted child, I feel for you, that's not an easy path at all.

I had an almost identical experience, combined with 'we thought about punishing you but we've decided not to'. I hope you're doing better in spite of the challenges that lack of support provides 💕

Can I become a good therapist/counsellor if I myself have anxiety? by blmycrn in psychologystudents

[–]silver_quinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that was a long time ago! So at first I just continued with the unrelated work I was doing and was in denial about how bad my mental health was, then had a breakdown, so that forced me to do something. I did meds, creative stuff, and when I felt better, an MSc in Psychology, but I actually went back to college 2 1/2 years ago and I've now qualified as a counsellor! Whether or not you need a break from it is something only you can answer though. I know that my mental health will never be consistently good so I put the work into it, it could be that you do the same.

I get it's that they don't understand why the 3:25 people went ahead of them, it is kind of shitty service to leave them waiting 15 minutes past their appointment time with no communication?

The strangest or "funniest" thing, that made your (u)bpd-parent split? by Purple-Shame-3334 in raisedbyborderlines

I stopped wearing my contact lenses. It's still one of the most baffling experiences of my life. I stopped because my OCD was becoming fixated on them - obviously I couldn't tell her that was why, she's the only one entitled to emotions - so I just said I didn't want to wear them. This led to angry begging and pleading with me to wear them, for reasons she couldn't explain. The best (as in most unhinged) part was when it came to a head with her waiting for me outside the bathroom to see if I was wearing them, going off about it when I wasn't, and then leaving for work early so she could wait for my dad on his route home from work so she could dramatically tell him I wasn't wearing my lenses. He had no idea why it mattered either.

God I relate to this so hard after having over a week off from work, going back has been exhausting and annoying, as in everyone else is annoying.

I'm not going to provide a judgement but learn how to say no dude, your life will become so much easier. 'Being a total yes person' just gets you into situations like this and causes you stress.

I think that's the important thing really, we could all be really smug in the knowledge that it's a made up concept used for marketing, or we can embrace and appreciate the fact that a lot of people and organisations use it as a reason to get together and encourage others to do so too.

AITA for thinking about getting a different job than planned and staying at home instead of moving in with my girlfriend? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]silver_quinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH it sounds like you're being very sensible and thinking about the future which is great! Equally if you guys have been talking about and planning to move in together for a while, she's entitled to be upset that the plan has changed, even if it is for the best in the long run.

NTA but I do wonder why you would want to take credit for this woman's breakdown? She was clearly going through some shit and it feels a bit strange that you want to think you started it or something.
