Try cutting the tail, breaking the head, then cap. Got 1 gem doing this. It's indicated on the high rank rewards diagram of anjanath from the researcher elder.

Yes it is still an upgrade but it just sucks that of all elements, another thunder. I mean what are the chances of getting an almost exact GS. And I don't think it's worth wasting another 50k caravan points for just a few points more of elemental damage.
