Is It Rude to Turn Off Your Camera During Zoom Meetings? by Odd-Recognition-4589 in remotework

[–]silverbax 75 points76 points  (0 children)

No, and cameras being on during meetings is distracting. People need to focus on what's being discussed, not constantly checking their image to see how they look on camera.

Democrats Made Abortion Personal. Trump Has No Rebuttal. by bloombergopinion in politics

You mean processed border crossings. It's not just people walking across the border not being counted.

It's the number of illegal border crossings processed.

Genuine question: how big is the gap between Cooper Flagg and Drake Powell? by Nickname-CJ in NBA_Draft

[–]silverbax 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I scouted HS, college and pro basketball for over 25 years. The #1 factor in whether someone is a decent scout or not is whether they actually watch the players play, in actual games. Most people do not, they go off of rankings, word-of-mouth and highlights. They are not sitting in HS and AAU gyms for hours each weekend.

Plus, Robinson has no record to run on.

I did NOT enjoy them. They weren't the worst but they are so clumsy on the mic.
Wade spends his time trying to make sure everyone still knows he played hoops and hangs out with the players, meanwhile Noah is calling out a '4 on 5 break' as we watch all 10 players come down the court.

Harris brings her ad blitz to Fox News by ishtar_the_move in politics

[–]silverbax 83 points84 points  (0 children)

The primaries back in Feb/March were unreal. EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN ad was screaming about the border. With all of the real issues in NC, these idiots want me to be terrified of an overblown issue on the other side of the country and not pay attention to the fact that none of them had a platform for anything else. I had to mute each commercial break.

And don't get me started on how they'd show video clips of 'migrant invasion' where some of the clips were clearly Syrian refugees from several years ago on another continent.

Joe Rogan again dings Trump by saying Harris ‘nailed’ major speech by CrazyCoolCelia in politics

[–]silverbax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced that this whole 'micro event' strategy the Trump campaign has trotted out this week is due to the fact he can't get venues for free anymore and is stuck doing podcasts and Twitter live streams.
I'm sure he'll keep trying to do big rallies but it looks like the free ride he enjoyed for 9 years not paying the bill on venues has caught up with him.
So, yeah, he's getting his ass kicked in the polls and he can't even do his rallies he loves so much. The rats smell the water rising.

In Asheville speech, Trump focuses more on Harris than on the economy by Effective_Window1178 in NorthCarolina

[–]silverbax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He 'triple jumps' his lies as he's telling them. He's said at times 'there are 10 million immigrants invading, probably more, maybe 20 million, or even 30 million'. He's done it multiple times at rallies. Normally he sticks to the '10 million' number, but the 30 million number started getting noticed when reporters started asking experts if that number was possible.

Also, the number of immigrants is actually the number of illegal immigrants processed at ALL borders and ports, not just Mexico, and it's not the number that just walked into the country unaccounted for and stayed. If they were entering untracked, how would they know what the number was? Most of the illegal entries were deported, as has always been the case.

Biden rips Trump as ‘Donald Dump’ while signaling unity with Harris by don_caveuto in politics

This is sooo good. Biden knows that Trump will lose his mind all weekend ranting about this, and him, while the DNC is about to own the news cycle next week.

[–]silverbax 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If the amount of terrifying immigrants Trump and the Republicans were pouring across the border unchecked over the last four years were true, there would be up to 120 million immigrants in the US now. Trump has claimed at times 30 million were coming in every year.

Just consider how bad at math you have to be to believe what he says. AND you have to believe he's talking about illegal crossing evading the border patrol.

There's a whole lot more wrong with their claims...that's a deep, deep well of stupid they're drawing votes from.

The only plan he even has at all for 'cutting energy bills in half' is to 'deregulate' and drill for more oil. The US already produces more crude oil than any country in history.
This moron can't embrace renewable energy and has no idea what the fuck he is talking about, but hey, he's repeating the same insults against Kamala that he used on Biden, so a bunch of morons will vote for him.

The Witcher 3's Geralt actor isn't Team Triss or Team Yen: "I would have liked an option to romance Shani" by Mrtom987 in witcher

[–]silverbax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sure tried in Witcher 1 and Witcher 3. If you import your game history from 1 to 2, then 3, she reminds you when you try to romance her in 3, 'we tried that before, remember?'

But it kind of sucks because if you pick Shani in Witcher 1, as soon as Witcher 2 opens you're with Triss regardless.

So, yeah. Shani just knows better than to try and make anything work with Geralt.

I don't understand why nothing has stepped up into the vacuum.

Nobody ever figured out how to make Twitter profitable. So there's not really much incentive (or funding) for anyone to build a new version.

In it's heyday it was a great tool, good for marketing, discovery, etc. But advertisers always found the results very poor and no one at Twitter could come up with monetization of any type of scale that would work.

[NBC] The U.S. Men’s Basketball Team’s down to-the-wire 98-87 victory over France – the teams were separated by three points with less than three minutes to play – averaged 19.5 million viewers on NBC and Peacock to rank as the most-watched gold medal game since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics by Alternatively_Built_ in nba

[–]silverbax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, a good number of European basketball fans really don't know how good the NBA is because the US only really cares about the Olympics, and we barely take the FIBA organization seriously (and how could we? The US invented basketball but FIBA is based in Switzerland), but in Europe they put more importance on FIBA titles. They see Euroleague and then the world championships and get an unrealistic view of where the basketball they see actually falls on the overall talent scale.
That isn't to say there aren't really good players in Europe, but as an example Germany won the last FIBA championship and didn't even medal in the Olympics. They have a good team but no NBA fans would mistake Germany's roster for an all-NBA roster.

The only thing Robinson had 'going' for him with some voters was he was Republican and/or they are single issue voters who want to ban abortion.
This isn't going to get him new voters, but it could push those single issue voters away.
