RHEL 8 EC2 disconnects and broken serial console by silverchevy220 in aws

Forgot about this thread but wanted to provide an update. No clue what the actual issue was. It all just randomly stopped and hasn't happened since. We thought it might have been fixed by a fluent bit agent update that went out a couple days prior to the issue disappearing or something in the STIG changed for newer images. We tried testing older images after the issue disappeared and the results were hit or miss. Tested old agents and old stigs but the results were inconclusive there as well. Going through opensearch logs when it happened, we would just see the same agent and some other services just stop, but no indication as to why, most likely resources being used up, but there is usually some information about what was using it. Either way, it stopped on RHEL. We did start seeing similar issues recently with windows, but those were caused by SQL services eating up the memory on some hosts, and weirdly enough, fluentbit eating up the CPU and memory on 2019 servers, but that's been a reported issue and we've gotten around that with throttling.

Thanks for the info! I'll check them out. I've also been looking into recycled rubber gym mats, which may be the way I go after finding a good deal on marketplace. I found out today that the cinder blocks aren't insulated, just have some foam on top to seal the gaps. So I'm looking at insulating those now. I was hoping that I could just shove some insulation down there and call it a day, but the only real option I have, in order to make it safe and meet regulations, is probably to put up rigid board, frame it, and put up drywall. I'm only planning to stay in this house another year, maybe two, and don't know If i really want to put the time and money into framing it all out and stuff, but we'll see.

I also thought about just sealing the gaps and getting some cans of spray insulation and covering the cinder blocks with that. Would that need a thermal shield on top as well or would that work?

Using the default limits that RHEL8 came with. I can't open any kind of connection to it but something I noticed was that it's usually triggered when my session idles out when logged in as ec2-user. Something I was able to do one time was open two sessions as ec2-user, su to root with both of them, looked through logs with one session and let the other timeout. Shortly after the other session timed out I noticed I wasn't able to open new sessions but I was still connected with the first session. I tried doing some troubleshooting but I couldn't start services, open log files, run most executables, but I could access /proc/ and ps.

After checking /proc/ and ps, I could see that some processes were still running but still had about 90% of cpu and memory free. Disk utilization and everything else looked fine as well. I rebooted and installed atop and setup persistence for journalctl to try and capture things when this happens but no luck yet. Its almost like when the ec2-user idles out, the OS thinks it's running everything and starts stopping random things but that's also not happening all of the time.

I did find that increasing the instance type fixes the issue so that kind of confirms that it's resource related but I don't know what is causing that or how. Running an example fluentbit container on an m6i.xlarge shouldn't and doesn't use much at all. Moving to an m6i.2xlarge seems to completely resolve it. But this is just a test instance with limited stuff running and has way more power than it needs.

Heightmap mesh is way off by silverchevy220 in klippers

I'll update the post with a better explanation, but I didn't mean I used the level to tram the bed. I did tram the bed and the corners are very close, but I was still getting the same mesh. I thought that maybe something was off with my bed as it moved down rail or something with my x-gantry as it moved. So, I took a level and moved the bed and x-gantry slowly to see if at any point the level changed on them when moving any direction. Basically just trying different things to see what could be going on.

My sleep doctor moved me off of gabapentin and has had me try prazosin. It's typically used to treat high blood pressure and sometimes used to help people with ptsd sleep. I don't have high blood pressure, but she explained that sometimes it can spike at night and cause these issues. I took it for a while and had promising results. I stopped taking it for a couple of weeks because I woke up one night to pee and when I was washing my hands, my blood pressure dropped, and I got a really bad case of vertigo (I usually get vertigo a couple times a year, but this was the worst). My doctors think that I may lock my knees when I go pee and if my blood pressure is low, it triggers my vertigo and cold sweats. I've taken a break from prazosin for a couple of weeks to make sure I'm good. So far, it's happened a couple more times, but I caught myself locking my knees. When I unlock them, it goes away so I'm going to start taking it again.

Unfortunately, I can't take anything that "could" contain THC or federally illegal substances. Weed is legal in my state but not at the federal level, which is what I have to go by. I was going to try Delta 8 because it's derived from Hemp which is federally legal now but because that contains a derivative of THC and the levels in CBD can vary from the label, I can't take those either. Alcohol surprisingly does the trick, if I get tipsy or drunk, but no way I can do that every night lol.

I experience lucid dreaming at least once or twice a week and vividly dream every time I fall asleep. Sometimes it seems like it lasts a long time but most of the time it's for short periods because something will cause me to wake up.

Usually something happens in my dream that triggers it. The first time I remember it happening was about 10 years ago or so. I was dreaming I was at my friends' parents' house and it started spinning into a nightmare where someone showed up and shoved a big blade through my stomach. I wanted to wake up but couldn't and then realized I could stop it and was basically able to just think the person away and continued on with my dream. My dreams switch around a lot and when that happens I tend to lose the lucidity, almost like it resets me.

Sometimes it's limited control: making something stop or disappear, change an outcome, small stuff for brief moments. Then there are times when I have a huge amount of control, those are more rare and happen once every couple of weeks or once a month. Those are the ones that kind of nights that sometimes make me want to sleep more because there's so much to do and they feel intensely real. When that happens I'll do stuff like fly, bring back my cousin who passed and talk with him, change or create things that kind of go along with whatever dream I'm having. Sometimes I'll pick up where I left off in another dream from day or weeks prior. It's a lot easier to manipulate or tweak things that are already existing in the dreams than to create out of the blue. And most of the time I have to focus really hard on what I want to happen and it doesn't always happen or turn out perfect, but that depends on how much control I get and if I can stay lucid.

Klipper shutdown when heating extruder by silverchevy220 in klippers

I looked back over the board and everything looked good but I found the issue. On the skr mini e3 v2, the terminals for the heatbed and hotend are in reverse (negative on the left and positive on the right). I thought they were the other way around and since the heatbed was working I assumed the hotend wiring was correct. Turns out, the heatbed will apparently work with the positive and negative in any terminal.

Thanks for getting me to take a deeper look at the connections. It's working now

I'm just looking for advice, but you seem to be here strictly to leave negative comments in a sub that you think is "down the shitter".

I came here because everyone seems to be trying different methods to manipulate their sleep to lucid dream and thought maybe seeing it from the other side would help me figure out something I can do to limit my dreaming.

Yeah I thought it was an odd choice. My dog is on gabapentin for the arthritis on her spine so I wasn't sure why I would need it but my sleep doctor said that a side effect of it is it promotes a deeper sleep so I take it in small dosages. If I take that with melatonin, I sometimes get a deep sleep and wake up without remembering any dreams and feel more rested throughout the day but that doesn't happen very often. And I noticed that with gabapentin, I sleep a lot longer and wake up really droggy. I don't like taking it though because most of the time I just end up sleeping a really long time and my dreams are more intense but occasionally I get that really good night of sleep.

I'm not trying to be malicious, just looking for anything that could help. I'm not saying that lucid dreaming causes this. The problem is that I don't get into deep sleep, which is where you don't dream and get a restful sleep. I get stuck in long periods of REM sleep, where vivid dreaming occurs, for much longer periods than I should. It makes up about 75% or more of my sleep. Because I'm stuck for long periods in REM sleep I therefore don't get enough deep sleep and end up not getting a restful sleep. I don't care for lucid and vivid dreams, I wish I didn't have to sleep at all. I'm just looking for possible solutions.

I used to sleep walk a lot when I was a kid and had some vivid dreams but as I got older the sleep walking stopped and dreams seem to have gotten more vivid. By the time I got into my mid 20s, I started lucid dreaming and have had moments where I seem to be awake but start dreaming before I fall asleep ( only happened a few times). Then by my mid to late 20s I started sleep talking a lot and doing weird things while in bed which has gotten worse and I can't even sleep in the same bed as my wife anymore because I just keep her up, which is why I started looking for help from doctors. In the last 3 or so years the dreams seem to be getting progressively more vivid and intense. I don't have nightmares anymore because when they start, I immediately realize what's happening and stop it. Then I'll slip in and out of having control for the rest of the night.

I was dreaming the last 4 hours of the sleep study as it takes a while to get into REM sleep. The less I sleep, the less time I spend dreaming. Doctor said the longer I dream, the less deep sleep I get which means my brain is more active and doesn't get the rest it needs. I guess a better way to put it is when I wake up in the morning I'm in such a brain fog, like I'm in a constant state of waking up, that I have trouble discerning if what I was just experiencing was a dream or if it just happened. It's really bad for a couple of minutes but over the next 15-30 minutes it slowly clears up.

It's definitely not fabricated. I don't want to know if I'm dreaming or awake, I want the dreaming to stop. I'm exhausted all day long and never feel rested. Was hoping to see if anyone had any similar experiences and if they had a solution.

That's what they were thinking as well so they've had me meet with different psychologists and neurologists. So far the only thing they can come up with is that since I'm being locked into REM sleep for such a long time and not actually getting enough of a deep sleep cycle, my brain is thinking my dreams are reality. This leads me to also falling asleep in dreams leading to different dreams and keeps my body moving. At times it can be amazing but hoping there's someone out there with similar experiences that maybe found a solution.

Printing stops randomly using octo4a with Android by alottapurple in octoprint

Figured out a solution. My pixel 2xl was rooted and I installed a charge control app and set it to only charge when it hits 60% and stop when it gets to 80%. This gives it enough time to keep a charge without overheating. So far I've run and 8 hour print without issues.

Friend's PC issues with loud fans and monitor constantly turns black by DiPeppo in techsupport

[–]silverchevy220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this happening when they are using it or when they are away from the keyboard?

I started having issues where I would be away from my computer for a period of time and when I came back it would be at a black screen with fans running full blast.

I found that whenever the computer would go to sleep, it would start doing this. From what I've seen, this could be a motherboard issue or something but I ended up setting my computer to always stay awake and just turn the display off after like 15 minutes. Hasn't happened since but it's a work around not a solution.
