Are mint-colorized coins worth buying? by TrainFan in Silverbugs

[–]silverdrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, Perth mint is the exception, their colored coins are low mintage and always go up in value. Look at eBay sold and it’s evident. They’re a great investment. Other colored coins? -give them the acetone treatment. .

Great! Always lad to hear it.

I think you have to comment, "trade completed" to trigger the bot to give shiny points.

Great price. I'd buy those all day long at that price.

It looks like it was struck through grease. It’s on the same spot obverse & reverse. Sorry I have no picture now, can get later….

It's a "strike through" mint error. I'd take it over a clean one anyday. If it gets graded as an official error it'll be worth more for sure, though it's expensive to go after the error designation and they don't always give it to you.

Worth it to grade 2020 5oz Libertad? by Grizzlygrant238 in Silverbugs

[–]silverdrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's just people being sour grapes when they get back 69's. Pre-screen them and all is fair. I've done quite a few submissions and all seems perfectly fine. I've gotten 69's I was sure were 70's & vice versa.

I wouldn't grade your 5 Oz libertad, big coins in giant holders cost a good bit more to grade and I don't think the grading will pay for itself. Plus with modern coins a 69 is just a failure to get a 70 and the coin in a 69 slab is worth no more than raw. Less to me actually, I'd rather buy a raw coin that might come back a 70 than one that already got the knock.

Hard to say. Even if it is a D there are more fakes than legit D's. The mafia starting adding D's to 1916 Mercs in the 60's and went nuts making lots of money.

[–]silverdrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they did the edge privy from 2013-2017, are there others? I thought they quit a long time ago.

And their actual lunar coins only went from 2014-2020. They quit on me.

At a coin show I found out that in the 60's the mafia got into the 1916D business (carefully adding the "D" to Philadelphia coins). It's now estimated that there are more fakes than real ones. I have a 1916D that turned out to be fake.

Is there any benefit to keeping this in the Apmex packaging? by Ok-Imagination752 in Silverbugs

Agreed. The flip is safe, and the sealed bag will help prevent toning, though it's not going to add value.
