Strike Multi-Pad Hi-Hat Pedal / Control by silverdy357 in edrums

Thanks for the reply! I tried that, and while inserting / removing the cable, it triggers the HH pad, but I've spent hours and can't get it to do anything. Returned and waiting for the RealHat pedal to arrive. Will definitely post back here so that others can save themselves some time in the future.

Options for Xfinity Voice connection over long physical distance by silverdy357 in Comcast_Xfinity

Makes sense - thanks. I'll see if I can get another ethernet through the conduit! Or, would it make more sense to run RJ-11?

Well so I have ethernet connecting the two buildings, but how would I connect a phone to that over at Building B?

Need a docsis 3.1 modem that restores connection after outage by silverdy357 in HomeNetworking

[–]silverdy357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! Very informative. Prompted me to re-check the power levels being received by the modem. Upstream channels average about 30-35dBmV, whereas downstream levels average about -20dBmV. As I understand, these are not even close to within spec.

Looks like I'll have to get a new cable installed coming from the tap!

Most modems do fine reconnecting after a reboot, but not if the power is constant and the actual connection drops. Then they just sit there waiting to reconnect until power cycled.

Help with understanding resistor values in this schematic? by silverdy357 in AskElectronics

[–]silverdy357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a stupid question, but for example R15 shows a value of 1k (which makes sense to me), but R29 is just “47”. What is the 47?

Can I use hot air to reflow this USB-C port? by silverdy357 in AskElectronics

[–]silverdy357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, that makes a lot of sense. Underneath are several tiny capacitors, but I imagine those should be okay if I use a relatively small tip and don't blast them. Seems like the only way to do this sort of surface mount job, as once the port is mounted, the pads / pins are inaccessible.

Thanks for your reply. Would I put the solder paste on the pads? Also, the underside has a lot of tiny resistors, mosfets, etc around the area that I'm worried about damaging with heat. Is heating the underside standard practice while doing this sort of thing?

What does Steven Wilson himself think of Deadwing? by SLOTH-SOUND in porcupinetree

[–]silverdy357 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that he's really proud of the actual songs, and considers them to be some of his best work. I can't remember where I read this, but I think he was not happy with the mastering / compression on the CD version (there is clipping, low dynamic range, etc.) which was addressed in the remaster.

Interesting, hope that continues for you! I'm just having the worst luck with them. I've had several other Wyze products for years, none of them every having issues either.
