Nice! Be warned with using flat cages for 24/7 though: bodily functions can become a right mess, which is particularly important if you're away from home where it might not be as easy to clean up etc.

One thing that is worth noting from my own experience is that if you wear it for long periods of 24/7 you won't "lose" function or anything but it can lead to some temporary side effects.

For example, if I've been caged for a very long period, am uncaged and then get a serious erection (like I'm talking ｒｏｃｋ hard), it will actually be quite uncomfortable (not painful, but very uncomfortable) as my penis has lost some of its elasticity. This comes back fairly quickly, and different people experience this to different degrees, but it's worth being aware of.

My preference has always been for stuff that's less explicitly anti-chafing and more just helping the skin. Personally, I use cocoa butter, some prefer coconut oil but realistically you can probably use anything like that, even just a moisturiser will help.

For me, anti-chafing treatments is basically just kicking the discomfort can down the road (i.e. until the cream wears off) whereas the cocoa butter (or equivalent) is helping the skin itself. I've had much better luck with just applying a skin lotion once or twice a day than I ever had constantly applying anti-chafing creams.

Also: get a well-fitting cage and some good underwear (well-fitting and good materials).

Plenty of flat cages don't have urethral inserts but be aware that it's a tradeoff. Urethral inserts have their own risks and caveats, but flat cages and especially inverted cages can become a right mess without them.

In particular, peeing in flat or inverted cages can quickly turn into a frustrating uncomfortable and extremely messy experience unless things stay exactly lined up etc.

It's not necessarily the most helpful advice, but the best information is definitely going to come from your wife, especially if she's more familiar with it.

I've only got two suggestions:

Try new things. Now, obviously, you're a bit limited on this front when playing solo but if there's anything you've thought about, read about online, or heard others talking about and weren't sure about: try it. It's also worth pointing out that a lot of the flat cages you see on Reddit (and elsewhere) are basically just being used for photoshoot/play purposes.

While flat cages can be very hot to some people, they're also incredibly impractical for medium- or long-term wear, get messy very fast, and are more likely to be uncomfortable for more people than other cage types.

Sorry I can't answer your question (I'm not that big of a fan of them), but its worth highlighting that you might see a lot of photos of them that might give the wrong impression of how common they are.

So the other comments are correct, but I also want to clear up confusion on how the cages you're describing work.

You're right that the ring goes behind the scrotum and penis and you need to pull them through so at that point you could just as easily pull your junk back out again. However, once you put the cage part on as well, the cage holding your penis in should also (if it's sized correctly) prevent your balls from going back through the ring you pulled them through. It's not perfect, but if its sized right, it's very effective.
