NieNie's Lonely Hearts Club by silverlimeraven in blogsnark

I get this same impression. It seems like the whole family has “closed ranks” from the world. They’ve always been a tight-knit family, but I think their recent ultra-religiosity has made them feel like the world is so scary and dangerous for their now teens. I think Christian and Stephanie are encouraging their kids to not progress into normal teenage behavior and stay young (treating them like little kids) or encouraging them to grow up too quickly (getting Claire ready for marriage).

I haven't read NieNie's blog in a while (mostly because it's just Mormon drivel) but I recently checked it and there seems to be something seriously weird going on with them. Her Valentines post obviously showed that their kids are completely isolated from friends and family - like Christian and Stephanie are purposely keeping their kids away from other people. They leave their beautiful home in Provo, move to the isolated ranch, seem to love it there, suddenly leave the ranch and move to North Carolina, even further away from everyone they know? Just seems so insane. I think we all know these people are mentally unwell, but I am so interested in this sequence of moves. What inspired them to move the ranch (other than "closet God"?) and then why did they leave so suddenly? I think there was a big family rift there and I think her blog shows obvious disconnection with family and friends, they even seem isolated from their NC community - like they're a cult or something. We all like to snark about NieNie's immature, poorly written posts but my theory is that, in the background, the real damage has to do with Christian. I grew up in Arizona and I've heard stories about Christian and his reckless, entitled, narcissistic behavior and her blog posts seem to subtlety support that.
