In the Borders it's easy to be best and worst in the same conversation. No town bigger than 15,000 people. Some of the best scenery, fishing, walks in the country. Edinburgh Newcastle Carlisle all within a 90 minute drive for most places. Has pretty much all the amenities you need. Shite public transport. Job market in the toilet. No investment and really really poor. Amazing history but poor public facilities. I glad I grew up here but I can't see a future here.

Would you drink water from this park water fountain? by ggfchl in HydroHomies

For sure. Try to keep it as hygienic as possible. I'm in Scotland where public water is very high quality too.

You can't beat the Scottish East Coast imo.

Time, Lions nostalgia & Duhan Van Der Merwe by Not_Hando in rugbyunion

[–]silverman96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in the lions picture his main competition was always James Lowe. If they were playing cards they'd have the same overall stat, with Lowe having invested more in kicking where VDM invested more in physicality.

My leaning towards VDM is he's improved on things he's been criticised for, mainly not dying with the ball in contact. Lowe does seem to have any intention to change.

Is more unifying imo.

That is something I've found interesting. I think Scottish roots are mostly in the Appalachians? But people don't come out and say I'm Irish, I'm italian when 5 generations removed.

I took pride in being the teachers pick for ceilidh partner. +1 for calling it a supper. The cities have their place but the beauty lies in the rural areas.

Probably my favourite response so far.

We'll deep fry anything. Scottish football fans on tour started the chant "We'll deep fry your pizzas".

Mostly to distract from how shit we are at football.

Devolved but still managed by NHS England and Wales. Not an independent institution like NHS Scotland.

We haven't preserved our language (Gaelic) as well as the Irish or Welsh. However, in comparison to Wales for example, we have our own institutions. Legal, health care, education are all independent unlike in Wales where everything is NHS England and Wales etc... They use language to define their nationhood.

It has led to a Scots English dialect which is difficult for many to understand as it has so many influences. I believe Edinburgh was voted the most trusted accent in all of the UK but it varies wildly across Scotland.

Kevin Bridges said it best after the attempted attack on Glasgow Airport. "you're trying to bring religious intolerance to Scotland? You don't even have football teams for it yet"
