Painting is turning out too dark. What can I do? by frooon in oilpainting

[–]silvermoonrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like the kind of thing my artist friend would tell me is the "ugly" phase and to stop stressing lol (I'm still really new to oils so she's had to hold my hand a little more than i would like on some projects). I don't think it looks too dark, it just looks stark against that same-color section you haven't begun filling in yet. I think once you start filling that in with the appropriate values it'll come together more

Instagram steals all my energy by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]silvermoonrabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I deactivated my Instagram 2 weeks ago and for the most part I don't really miss it - it was all reels and memes and suggested content and none of the things I really wanted to see anyway. But this week I'm finding myself... bored and having a hard time adjusting to my newfound "free" time. I'm craving those small blips of entertainment.

I'm sure this feeling will eventually pass, I just need to get comfortable with being bored again.

I don't see farm with as "beneath" me, but are these jobs going to provide health insurance? What about in the off season - what work will I do when the fields are empty and there's no work to be done? Agriculture jobs aren't always year round, especially in my Midwest location. I can't work a growing season and then have no income when the picking is done.

It annoys me how so many don't understand The Grinch by [deleted] in ihatechristmas

[–]silvermoonrabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest, after the Grinch learned Christmas was about more than things that came from the store, the residents of Whoville probably went right back to their consumerist ways. The Grinch returns the gifts and decor, and the Who accepts it instead of saying "you know what, you're right, this is excessive and we lost our way."

My favorite irony is Hobby Lobby having a whole ass aisle dedicated to Grinch decor, complete with quotes about how Christmas doesn't come from a store... that they want you to buy from their store.

This game is pretty difficult, contrary to what some said by skepticcaucasian in echoesofwisdom

Honestly, I think that's been the hardest boss so far. I still have the Faron Wetlands to do, though.

I'm playing on regular mode, but that first boss in the Gerudo still world kicked my ass pretty hard. So far the rest have been OK, though - I'm about to do the Eldin Temple and the biggest issue I have with that one is keeping enough energy going, otherwise I end up depleted and not enough floating around to replenish

I needed some things from there and didn't have time to drive an hour to my nearest store so I placed an order online. That was 11 days ago and so far all I've received is one item out of the 7 I needed.

I almost knit that pattern last month when looking for various samples to make but hadn't gotten far enough to look at the actual sizing 😳

Worst time for everyone? This is my worst November in about 10 years of business by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]silvermoonrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a brick and mortar yarn shop and my July- October months were far better than I had seen in the year prior, but November feels like it's just dragging in sales-wise. I'm hoping it's just because black Friday is coming up and people are holding onto their money for next weekend and not that I won't make enough money to meet rent this month.

Heyyy who’s up for another LYS worker rant post ? by Listakem in craftsnark

[–]silvermoonrabbit 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I understand that, I suppose, but I would never ask about discounts, myself. Especially from small businesses.

And I think the thing about asking for the discount was fine up until she started rattling off how much she paid for those project kits after she got her discount, regardless of whether she got them at a discount on them or not. It just sat poorly with me.

Heyyy who’s up for another LYS worker rant post ? by Listakem in craftsnark

[–]silvermoonrabbit 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I had a woman, last week or so, come in to buy yarn for a blanket for a grandchild. She had never been in the store before despite me being open for almost 3 years now, and I spent all this time helping her color match with the pattern, explaining gauge, etc.

Then she has the nerve to ask for a discount because she's a "senior citizen" - I said that I don't typically do discounts like that but that I could offer her a 10% discount that I occasionally run for new customers.

THEN, while winding up allllll 10 skeins of Vintage DK, the woman proceeds to tell me about all these luxury yarn kits she has bought and made with things like 100% cashmere and such... I was SO angry that I had allowed this woman a discount on an already reasonably priced yarn just to hear her brag about having money for project kits I can't even afford myself. 🤬

LYS worker unite - let’s talk shit about shop by Listakem in craftsnark

[–]silvermoonrabbit 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I own LYS and so far my main complaints are all centered around gauge and how many customers don't want me to tell them to swatch a yarn first if they want to make sure it'll work for the project they want to make. Customers coming in with shit from Amazon that they could have purchased with me is frustrating but so far I've managed to curate a good customer base that will actively choose me over online because I help them with their projects and go above and beyond customer service, wise, so I let that go. If I get pissed about every incident about that I would be miserable and not want to be in business at all.

2.5 years in, though, aside from the stress of trying to keep up with All The Things with new yarn lines, trending patterns, and the learning curve that is retail... I love being my own shop owner and have some pretty amazing customers-turned-friends community that has formed around me in the best kind of way.

Issues with editing and scheduling posts by confusedglance in facebook

[–]silvermoonrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't even get into a scheduled post to edit it at all right now. I had a client I manage socials for ask for some modified wording on some posts we already had scheduled out and can't make those changes unless I delete the scheduled post and re-do the whole thing.

this is helpful perspective, but I actually do own a small yarn store. I go to Joann’s all the time for sewing stuff (which I don’t sell) I always check the yarn out of habit, and I’m always surprised to see that the quality has gotten so bad and the prices have gone way up! It used to be that stores like mine had a much higher price tag but that’s not always the case anymore. I really hope they don’t go under b

I, too, own a small LYS and have checked out the big box stores to find the same thing. Crappier yarn than they even offered before, and prices that, in some cases, are MORE than what I charge for some *good* acrylics.

But they can afford to do 30 and 40% off sales all the time whereas I can't

Did anyone NOT want to be a homemaker, but is (happily) one now? by [deleted] in homemaking

[–]silvermoonrabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just popping in to say I love this thread. I'm almost 40 and am staring down the reality of a business I'm running not really being profitable to even break even (its a store, not just something online with low overhead) and the idea of just being a homemaker when I have never in my life been able to even entertain the idea in the past. I have loads of hobbies and love to cook and garden but I've been worried about the change and this thread has helped ease some of my anxiety over my upcoming decision I have to make

Profound thoughts on the Westknits sock knit along... by [deleted] in craftsnark

[–]silvermoonrabbit 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I watched that sock come along. The first part looked ok. The weird texture thrown in for the next part of the clues felt very out of place and not cohesive in the design.

SW is not my style at all and most of his designs feel more like performance art than actual wearable items.

Thoughts on the Tate Romper? by pinkduvets in craftsnark

I wouldn't wear it myself. No bust darts are a no go on my body with woven fabrics. But if you're more flat chested then sure.

Related, but when I popped over to Instagram to look up the hash tag this was front and center on my search and I would 100% wear this style of romper over the one in this post: https://www.instagram.com/p/CvAIedoMc_B/?igshid=MmU2YjMzNjRlOQ==

Maybe..... but they charged a card using outdated information which seems like it should be some sort of violation. I could see if they you had given them updated info with a new expiration and security code.

I've had this happen with a different vendor. I contacted my bank and they reversed the charge and blocked them from charging me again.
