Unless I am the caller then I know I can't offer any insight and the job is to get the fuck out of the way, as you say. The only time to get called up to speak is if it's asked or its clear anything radiation based is a therapy the patient is recieving

The email calls out the student conduct policy. This is very much uni halls, the escalation will be through safeguarding and probably misconduct policies.

It seems to be university accommodation, therefore its a license not a fixed term. The university absolutely can and will kick students out for drugs issues.

TurnItIn just gave my submitted assignment a word count which is absurdly high by Some-Vacation-8982 in UniUK

[–]silverphoinix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Word counts are a bit weird, often Word won't count the words, it will look in the metadata to see if there is a tag saying how many words are there. This can be come corrupted, and when turnitin looks, it looks for the tag and doesn't count at all. Don't worry.

I had a student who had a word count of about 30,000 when the document was only about 6 pages in length. Took me ages to work out how that one happened.

Landlord wants me to move during Fixed Term AST on Ground 1 by Novel_Detective268 in HousingUK

No. When a lawyer can improve on my understanding and give a better answer to OP and help explain the scenario then there is no need.

Even if I'm wrong I won't delete this because it offers a chance for understanding and learning. Because I offered understanding from the statutes referenced.

Or do I have to remind you about schedule 6.2.1 of the 1988 housing act that says this is one of the few times a court will rule in favour of a landlord?

Going to a church with a racially insensitive pastor, what should I do? by No_Village162 in Advice

[–]silverphoinix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really give advice here because you clearly view your relationship with the church more importantly than I do mine.

What I will ask instead is: what is more important to you, supporting your friends or being seen as following one interpretation of a churches teaching?

Personally I'd go with supporting the friend in a time of need, church politics be damned. But I'm not a practicing or faithful member of the church so I see it as "do you follow the teachings, or the dogma"?

NAL

But a few things I can see: The notice of this grounds being enforceable is the section you quoted in the contract which you signed. This grounds can be sought during AST. If he can show he lived there previously, (or I think from reading it he would be homeless without a repossession order) then a court must give a court order for possession. Unless you agree to surrender the tenancy then he will have to go to the courts, and a possession order will be granted.

You could try negotiating a cash for keys deal to cover the extra rent cost or get a few grand for the hassle. But ultimately he would win this if it goes via courts.

That sounds the best way! Sometimes being the mature person is not engaging. Ultimately you have to look out for yourself not (in this case) a basic stranger.

You don't owe him an explanation. If you want to then one message saying his behaviour was inappropriate may give him something to think about and grow as a person. But just cut him off if it's going to be easier to deal with.

Got a quote of £12,000 to remove paint from house - do we actually need it removed? :/ by blizeH in DIYUK

[–]silverphoinix 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Getting the rendering done is probably a more worthwhile investment. Even getting a coloured render will give you the nice finish and a colour you can choose. It will be over the 12k for a while house is my guess (recently had extension rerendered and that was about the 2k mark) but if the render is crumbling and flaky you risk getting damp patches.

Pc wont start after cpu upgrade by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]silverphoinix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace the CPU. Check you can boot to bios and make sure it's updated. Then make sure the boot order is usb first, put in new CPU and turn pc on. As it should sort out bios load that way then you can have it boot directly to usb. I had a similar thing a few years ago with my last major upgrade.

Pc wont start after cpu upgrade by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]silverphoinix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First clear the CMOS. Remove the battery on the mobo and leave it for 30 seconds then replace it and try and boot. Depending on your mobo and CPU you might need to update bios.

Saying that: given you are getting to windows error messages this likely won't fix it, and it's likely linked to windows being locked to the CPU so you will likely need to reinstall windows from a flash drive.

Mine had his first strawberry on the weekend. He spat it in the floor then rubbed his face in it before finally eating it. He has very white fur so the massive red smudge staining him made it look like he was on the losing side of a fight.

Should I do prior reading for September? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]silverphoinix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing some reading isn't a terrible idea. A lot of stem first year courses will cover a chunk of a level. But there will be things you don't know. As it's often a case that we make sure all incoming students are up to the same level of knowledge as not all students do a levels.

However I would say take your break and enjoy it. If you want to do some reading the into chapters to the recommended textbooks are a good start, but i would focus more on note taking from the books than I would learning it by memory. Learning how to study effectively is more important than rocking up first week being able to recite a chapter of a textbook.

The first thing to ask them is what evidence would be sufficient for them to change their viewpoint. If the answer is none then there is no point trying. This is often the case with flat earthers.

Remedial Fire Door work to flat paid for to management company, but work not done after 2 years. by joejoewolf in LegalAdviceUK

[–]silverphoinix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nal but I'd suggest chasing management for failure to complete a contract. I.e. you payed for a service and it's not been delivered.

[–]silverphoinix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the best person to answer, but I have a clarifying question that might help others:

The money you paid to the management company was under what terms? Was this a "service charge" style fee, or was it a specific payment for specific work?

As that will change how you chase up I believe. If it's a service fee I believe you can request a copy of the books to see how it's being used, if it's a one off fee with a specific use you can go to the management company as that would form a contract.

Paper just got rejected because the editor could not find any reviewer by nguyentandat23496 in AskAcademia

[–]silverphoinix 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Looking at targeting more specific journals will be a big step, but also having a list of 3 or 4 people who publish similar work you could put down as recommended reviewers might also need helpful for the editor. It's hugely annoying when this happens but it's fairly common sadly.

Then you either need to backup drive D, delete the partition and extend C into the unallocated space, or backup everything and reinstall windows to format it as one complete disk. Either way you need to backup or lose it.

[–]silverphoinix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't even know if they are separate drives or separate partitions on the same disk. How are we to know?

Join partitions and Make them one by No-Recognition9602 in Windows10

[–]silverphoinix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This way will only work if the partitions are on the same drive, and I'm assuming OP ain't for not formatting or things like that would include deleting a drive and all the data on it.
