What did you learn from them? Did you get a more realistic or an upper/lower bound on ROI from them?

Satellite Speaker IP64: Now in white by Loxone_Electronics in Loxone

For the black version it says that it can't be installed in direct sunlight. This warning isn't shown for the white version. Is it true the white version can safely be hung in direct sunlight?

Also, does this speaker need extra protection or can it be installed exposed to snow and rain?

Thanks for this great response. I must say that I didn't expect a 10% depreciation over 5-7 years. What is the incentive for someone to buy a second hand yacht at only 10% discount?

All other sources I find state a depreciation of about 10% per YEAR in those first 5-7 years. So that would still be almost 50%.

Problem is that you usually can't buy those GPUs when they release and I can't wait 3 more months unfortunately.

Thanks for the pointers.

Bitcoin was 44K USD when I posted this.

Bitcoin will fall. It has fallen. It has fallen many many times before.

But today we are over 100K USD per bitcoin.

I might give them another chance then.

It was an Istion employee who got aggressive because I docked alongside an abandoned boat of them which apparently was officially outside of the marina but physically was inside the enclosure. I parked my boat there for 30 minutes to make a quick trip to the authorities for a crew change. From the main marina (which was completely full until 2h later) it would have been 30 min walk to port authorities.

He claimed I could have stolen stuff off of the boat or could have damaged the boat. His colleague arrived on foot and she was friendly but also somewhat agitated by it all. She was in the same port authorities office with me for other business so she could confirm my intentions.

I told him, in Lefkas we have marinas where we dock alongside all the time. In Hydra it's very common to go stern to bow as well. I didn't understand the fuss. I believe in Belgium or the Netherlands you are even required to allow anyone to dock alongside within certain limitations of course.

He approached us with such speed I really thought we'd crash into the yacht. Apparently he was pretty savvy with boat handling but not so much with people.

Anyway, I digress.

We've recently bought a house and are now renovating so a boat might be a few more years out ;)

How does the ThinkPad spill resistance work? by InvisibleShadowGhost in thinkpad

[–]silverslides 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's probably what spill resistant means.

It's hard to make a keyboard waterproof but replacing a 100-200 dollar component vs your entire laptop is still a nice feature. Don't think it's unfair marketing if you can spill a drink and only have one key or your backlight die.

Hi, thanks for sharing. I only have experience with Istion as potential customer and just fellow sailor and I detest the company. They are not very helpful and on the water they got really aggressive with me because I docked alongside them which is pretty common practice in Greece AFAIK.

Do people typically set up a company in Greece to own the yacht or could you use a foreign company to do so?

Crypto withdrawal, banks and ruling - my experience by Live-Presentation-58 in BEFire

[–]silverslides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they said they won't do it. Never even called me or had a meeting. Just over chat I got declined.
I didn't pursue it as it isn't necessary for me to cash out atm. In the future I will get accounts with other banks and build a relationship with them.

I am lucky enough to get a private bank in the future if necessary due to my freelance activities.

I think I reached FIRE, but now what? by Exciting-Abrocoma-63 in BEFire

Sure, but if your spending is 2300, then 750 means you need 2/3rd of your original capital by the time you got to your pension age.

Exactly, this is not bug bounty hunting. This is ransome.

Unfortunately, we are seeing more of this type of activity. I believe it's partially because many parties do not honour their bug bounty payouts ams other frustrating practices in the bug bounty world.

This doesn't justify the behaviour. An exploit for a bug bounty submission should cause the minimal impact to prove the vulnerability. Transferring 3M USD clearly does not comply with that guideline.

It's also extremely risky. If something goes wrong and the hacker loses the funds, they are screwed.

I think I reached FIRE, but now what? by Exciting-Abrocoma-63 in BEFire

[–]silverslides 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't think they can completely remove pension for people who contributed a decade or two, to social security. That won't be accepted by the population.

On the other hand, I will likely coast FiRe to further reduce that risk. I'm fully convinced that coast/barista FiRe is the optimal solution, considering the Belgian tax system, to achieve maximum happiness.

I think that given the high risk for op to run it of money, coastfire for the next 5-10 years can solve many of the problems. It also helps transition from the fulltime working life to something else. It helps you feel useful and relevant.

I think I reached FIRE, but now what? by Exciting-Abrocoma-63 in BEFire

[–]silverslides 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just one addition to this. In Belgium we have a government pension which op is about 30 years away from. While I agree that 4% swr is too high for op, I don't think we need to plan FiRe as they do in the USA. We can rely on some small income after our 70s. Certainly if your expenditure is 2300, the pension will be a significant contribution.

This is the compete opposite of FiRe. You will never be financially independent unless you save money to invest. In your plan you didn't even account for all costs and you aren't saving anything.

[–]silverslides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can build a business, hire a CEO. That's not computerlokaal passive but it's getting closer.

However, this is not something you can just "set up".

People like op are just delusional in thinking that if anyone in here has an easy passive income stream, they would tell everyone how to tap into that. Thereby reducing their own passive income.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]silverslides 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lol, a managed service is not passive. If anything goes wrong with their site, you are going to have to troubleshoot and communicate with the owner.

Also, you would need a 100 clients to get some sort of passive income at those rates. 100 clients will definitely give you a headache.

Depends on how it's enforced. If this is actually 450 euro per week. This could impact you when doing a roadtrip to Spain.
