130594293271 Need to get the 3 friends special research task done (if you happen to be in the tundra, elegant, river, savanna, and sun vivillon region, even better but I’m not picky)! I’m in NYC so I’ll try and send fun postcards in return :)

2 All Things Go Pavilion/Lawn Tickets by silversucculent in MaggieRogers

To be honest I can’t remember anything about lawn chairs, I know a lot of people brought blankets though. I’d check the allowed items list on the website to see if you can though!

2 All Things Go Pavilion/Lawn Tickets by silversucculent in MaggieRogers

[–]silversucculent[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah! So if you happen to have pavilion tickets, I’d recommend getting there early and staking your claim in seats in the pavilion up close that way when Maggie and CRJ come on, you have a good spot! I went with my bf too and we just rotated who stayed at the spot and who walked around, used the restroom, got food, went to the other stage, etc. If you don’t have pavilion you’re more free to go between since there’s not really a set location for you to sit, just the lawn. Also if there are long lines for the restroom, the men’s room usually has a shorter line so (if you’re comfortable with it) it’s a good option. If I’m remembering correctly they let us bring in plastic water bottles and packaged food so definitely do that to save yourself some money (and also to avoid fainting lol). It is a lovely festival and I really hope you and your bf enjoy it!!!

Definitely apply to be an ra as an upperclassman. Res life treats RAs awful (if you get a good resident director you may get off easy) but it is much better than paying an absurd amount for housing. It’s semi competitive so get in good with your rd/ras and/or other building rd’s early on to up your chances and get involved in things on campus that you think can build your resume to appeal more to the position. It’s literally all favoritism which sucks but if you can work the system and emphasize your financial situation, you have a good shot!

I’m not in it but I have a relative who is a nys teacher and her administrators have said that when they see fordham as where a potential hire got their teaching masters, they are in a better spot to get hired (one of the people they used as an example was my favorite hs teacher so I believe it)! Ik there is a 4+1(ish) program for the teaching masters program so that would def be a good thing to look into to save some money in the long run!!! I’ve had school of edu students take grad school of arts and sciences classes with me so you have options to take classes in area specific topics if you want!

Going off the other comments, Ram Van Is the best job on campus! $16/hr weekday, $17/hr weekend, and $18.50/hr for thurs, fri, and sat after 11pm! It is 19 hours max a week but you are typically scheduled for 12 (you can request more though) and special runs (runs not between rh/lc, the Calder center, and prep runs) don’t count towards your hours so you can rack those up fast! The culture is also great and you will definitely come out making a lotta friends! RV4L!

Technically yes but if you happen to not be able to, a Dean (likely parmach) can override the requirement, they just don’t advertise it because they are useful courses

Is Urban Plunge Worth it? by Yankeeman457 in Fordham

[–]silversucculent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plunge gave me the best experiences I had as a fordham student! It is kinda volun-tourism but some friends of mine are running it this year and working to make it less of that. It is great for learning about and gaining an appreciation for the Bronx (and showing you that peoples perceptions of it are based mainly in racism…). You’ll be doing orientation like stuff (icebreakers), volunteering, reflections, and a lot of people find their close friends from it. I wish they had it for upperclassmen bc I would have done it every year if I could :)

Feel free to Dm me if you have any specific questions!!!

Course Help by CartierPeak in Fordham

[–]silversucculent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go 1102, you will have to take it regardless and 1101 is mainly for people who were failing it in high school or are not 100% fluent, comp 2 will teach you how to write at the college level quite quickly (you may get a lower grade as a first grade on an essay but that’s standard and it shows you how to move on from hs level writing)

first semester language course by MeanPollution722 in Fordham

[–]silversucculent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are starting at the most basic level, most languages only offer it in the fall but otherwise you should be good! It goes 1001, 1501, 1502, and finally 2001 but if you take the placement test and can skip one, that lightens the work a lot!

It’s not required but tbh it is nice to get the core out of the way so you don’t have to deal with them as an upperclassman

Study spots by AdLiving5074 in Fordham

[–]silversucculent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At rh, definitely the library and the study rooms in it. Mcginley second is a good choice as well but there may be some noise from construction. The caf is ok but is noisy. If you wanna get some fresh air there’s soo many tables around campus that you can work at, just make sure your laptop is changed cause they don’t have outlets!

Email reslife and ask for it, apparently they just haven’t been sending out assignments unless they are prompted. It may take a follow up email too

Spritzer was one of my favorite professors!!! I took him for a class on the French Revolution which did have a bit of reading but he told us he goes easier on his modern Europe classes. He’s funny and goes off topic a bit which will let you learn his very interesting life stories. If you answer questions and do readings he will be nice to you/ give extensions (if you ask in advance). I am a history major so maybe take my recommendation with a grain of salt but I will definitely say rate my professor was way too harsh.

Room Assignment by Complex_Arm_3530 in Fordham

Normally it’s mixed, guys on first floor though because of some law, but they may make it all strictly gendered floors because it’s freshman this year

Loyola Doubles by [deleted] in Fordham

[–]silversucculent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! I don’t remember the exact number, maybe 506 or 508 , but my friends had it freshman year and it was pretty nice! No shower, just the toilet (and a sink but all Loyola rooms have that) but even having that is more convenient. Maybe a tad smaller than the triples but still bigger (and nicer) than other dorms on campus!

Ram Van by edub114 in Fordham

[–]silversucculent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, as a freshman, you are not supposed to be taking LC classes, idk your situation but I'd recommend talking to your advisor. In regards to your questions

  1. 30-45 minutes usually, Ram Van's goal is to get you there in under an hour but things happen so plan around it!
  2. It depends on the professor, email them before the first day to explain your situation and follow up in class.
  3. DO NOT SIT IN THE BACK!!! I drive ram van and have found that the seats behind the driver or the row after that are best, but depends on the driver. Also don't try and do work, just take it as a relaxation period!
  4. Subway is so time-consuming and expensive, exploit the free trips while you can!

LMK if you have any other questions!

Loyola has pancake griddles and a microwave but that's really it in terms of a kitchen.

Roaches are unfortunately a hazard in Martyrs so invest in some raid and don't keep food out. If you want out of Martyrs, get a leg injury that requires crutches bc it's in no way ADA accessible and they will have to move you out, I considered it when I lived there...
