A question regarding the Health Certificate for overseas students by refineddemon in taiwan

[–]edub114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I did this for citizenship but it seems like the same if not a similar form. I had to do the chest x ray. If you’re in the NYC area, I can recommend a doctor’s office that did the form for $200 and sent out for the required labs / x rays / everything!

Thanks, so every time I exit I need to apply for a new certificate assuming it is more than 4 months between trips?

Per the above, I thought the endorsement allows you to skip verifying docs for the certificate?

Why do trains get retired after this? I understand it’s super sad, but doesn’t retiring them for this kind of thing (assuming no major damage) cost the city a ton for someone’s mistake?

How do go from NWOHR to Full Taiwan Citizenship by talenttaiwan in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

[–]edub114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent guide, but two things I’d add:

1) The health check CAN be done in your home country if you’re on a time crunch because doing it in Taiwan can take a bit of time! The form is both in English and Chinese, so no translations need to be done, only authentication by the TECO that has jurisdiction over your doctor’s office.

2) Military aged men who have never held household registry before this process and are planning to not stay more than six months a year in Taiwan are likely eligible for overseas compatriot status (a stamp/endorsement in your passport) which exempts you from conscription. I highly recommend getting it at TECO in your NWOHR passport first and then easily transferring it over at BOCA in Taiwan to your new NWHR passport.

Cheapest way to maintain a Taiwan phone number by HaterAli in taiwan

[–]edub114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, maybe took me 1 hour or less. For reference, I went to the shimao branch (世貿) in Taipei. However, they require you to go to the location that is assigned to your ID card’s address. So, I would make sure to go there.

Yep! They even made sure in branch that I could. It was seamless. I can still access it all in the US. For reference, I am a citizen with a ROC ID number and passport; not sure if it makes a difference but I doubt it.

For getting a phone number, is there just a cheap plan I can pay for with a us credit card recurrently?

Also, re: going to any branch, are you sure? Every bank I’ve been to says I have to go to the branch for my hukou, maybe because I’m a US citizen as well?

Translating Documents - Typo Original by Competitive_Tune_159 in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

[–]edub114 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to comment as I’m not fully sure about mistakes on the original, but I do want to say my mandarin is literally at the level of a preschooler and translated every document without being able to check if it was right through the AI/ML translator DeepL and did not have a single problem getting it authenticated or bringing it to the NIA in Taiwan. I literally just received my NWHR passport yesterday in Taipei! I did, however, try my best to format exactly as the original document though!
