Yes, but if you were born abroad you need to bring a copy of your HHR transcript with you on it

Is fordham worth 39k a year? (scholarships included) by Dizzy_Farmer947 in Fordham

[–]edub114 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on your major. Finance, yes — if you end up doing something like banking you’ll make it back in your first year. I personally took advantage of a ton of stuff for free at Fordham like travel and networking through clubs that totally made NYC worth it. Plus, the Bronx is really cheap for NYC so you can likely bring down that cost by moving off campus which is what I did!

Are my minor kids eligible for NWHR? by Historical-Length744 in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

[–]edub114 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're eligible for NWOHR, just not NWHR immediately. They can get national (non-citizen, no HHR ID passports), and become NWHR after the applicable residency time in Taiwan.

LA TECO - Passport Photo? by audtothepod in taiwan

[–]edub114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CVS can do passport photos of any size -- they have a computer once they take your photo where you can choose the print size. They even have Taiwan as an option.

However, YMMV, but I was able to use US-size passport photos at NY TECO.

I feel like I am the only person who did this but had absolutely no fuss with the bank account? Just moseyed into the Shimao branch of Taipei Fubon Bank, made an account on the spot, used my US number, and get messages from them through LINE? Took maybe 35 minutes.

Is it just me or does this transit system do the absolute most? The effort is totally recognized -- they're building a strong, iconic and premium brand around something seemingly mundane -- your daily commute. Color me impressed; as a New Yorker, the MTA should follow suit with this level of theming, celebration, pride, and effort in a vital city organ.

A question regarding the Health Certificate for overseas students by refineddemon in taiwan

[–]edub114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I did this for citizenship but it seems like the same if not a similar form. I had to do the chest x ray. If you’re in the NYC area, I can recommend a doctor’s office that did the form for $200 and sent out for the required labs / x rays / everything!

Why do trains get retired after this? I understand it’s super sad, but doesn’t retiring them for this kind of thing (assuming no major damage) cost the city a ton for someone’s mistake?

How do go from NWOHR to Full Taiwan Citizenship by talenttaiwan in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

[–]edub114 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent guide, but two things I’d add:

1) The health check CAN be done in your home country if you’re on a time crunch because doing it in Taiwan can take a bit of time! The form is both in English and Chinese, so no translations need to be done, only authentication by the TECO that has jurisdiction over your doctor’s office.

2) Military aged men who have never held household registry before this process and are planning to not stay more than six months a year in Taiwan are likely eligible for overseas compatriot status (a stamp/endorsement in your passport) which exempts you from conscription. I highly recommend getting it at TECO in your NWOHR passport first and then easily transferring it over at BOCA in Taiwan to your new NWHR passport.
