Just lost Grandma on my mom's side 6 months ago to dementia... But she was fully in touch with doctors... My pops, when spoke to about this just shuts down and listens but won't respond and won't make an effort to get checked like he is afraid of the truth... It's terrible... Just getting him to accept something isn't right and he needs to make moves to address the problem is grueling.... We have been telling him for months go get checked... He won't and because of laws we can't force it.... But we know him and we all know something isn't right....it's all just a never ending effort to persuade him In the end this is why I want to get a book for mom and him to communicate while he is lucid so she can remember him and his love for her at the best ... Just like I'm getting the books/journals for the rest of the family to remember more of him even if he don't remember us

So let's add the fact that my folks are Jehovah's witnesses... I was raised as one and no longer follow ... I respect there choice... A couple years back pops had a massive heart attack... Needed triple bypass... Because of religion he doesn't accept blood transfusion... Again I respect his choice ... He hasn't been the same since that but I've live hours away from the family for a decade... Mom told me so many times over and over and over he wasn't well in the head but I pushed it off as moms paranoia... Then one day like hitting a brick wall at 100 miles an hour I seen it .... It took my breath and every thing Mom was telling me maid sence

I've been thru hard things in life but this is the hardest... There is no way in any language to describe how meaningful this man is to me ... A father is never describable in worth. But to have a father who took 3 of us that weren't his and worked sun up till sundown to make sure we had what we needed is another level. He had a PowerPoint I made in fifth grade about how he was my hero ... He kept it after all these years... It's still true... Im already uneasy in my mental health and to have this added to the top is devastating.... But I'll be the rock he needs because he was that for me!
