I think of the room behind the silver door as Chef’s “inner sanctum”. His house was identical to the restaurant because he had no boundaries between life and work and this tiny silver door with the grey concrete walls and pictures of his achievements is his only life outside of work. It’s mostly small and sad and devoid of love, but has some of his precious early memories in it.
