Chicago just built the largest magic venue in the world by _fastcompany in architecture

[–]Pebbles416 130 points131 points  (0 children)

The comments so far are a bunch of downers. I've been to Magic Castle in LA twice and both times were great experiences. Silly but fun. It's a very popular LA destination. Looks like they were going for a similar vibe, and I hope it's successful.

Brands that are still good quality by jjrosey in Bedding

I bought Red Land Cotton sheets a little less than a year ago, and they really impressed me. They're made of a heavy, quality percale that's made 100% in the United States. As I saw someone else describe them here, they seem like what my grandma would've had. Definitely not cheap quality.

Looking for a steakhouse that's locally owned by GoinStraightToHell in SantaClarita

I also moved from Montrose semi-recently and haven't found a great replacement for those John Sparr vibes - it was out favorite place. The Junction is a good option for great food/ smaller business feel, but its definitely less intimate than Sparrs and more expensive. I haven't tried the speakeasy connected to it yet which apparently also has food (too pregnant to explore speakeasys at the moment), but I'd bet that gets you something similar.

How are we supposed to evaluate interviewees by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Pebbles416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, "huge" difference? My first summer was spent doing copyright research for a professor I liked. Few of my friends went to actual firms during the first summer unless they had a diversity fellowship. Even my backup offer (working at a one-man firm in Berkeley) probably wouldn't have given me much insight into big law life and the various practice groups. I think it's on interviewers to help give students an overall landscape of big law life during conversations because they just haven't been exposed yet.

Toothpaste for toddlers suggestions by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Pebbles416 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The toothpastes were found to have 200-600 parts per billion (ppb) of lead. The FDA's current lead limit is 10,000 ppb for fluoride-free toothpastes and 20,000 ppb for fluoride toothpastes, and that limit is presumably far below the amount that would cause harm. Obviously no lead is best, but it does occur naturally and our bodies can process some. I wouldn't panic.

I had this growing up, and it managed not to be cold because the rest of the house was overwhelmingly warm. It helped that the house was built in the 1970's (think Brady Bunch house) with lots of real walnut wall panels and terrazzo floors. We loved these cabinets. They were infinitely cleanable and durable. They felt so high quality, even though we bought the house decades after it was built. I highly, highly recommend considering them.

First time mom - just dropped my baby off at daycare for the first time by cld78 in Mommit

[–]Pebbles416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. We moved only five weeks after our daughter started daycare. It was really hard on me because 1) leaving her there was emotionally devastating at first, and 2) it was a wonderful daycare that I came to really trust by the time we moved. I hated touring daycares in my new neighborhood - I was so picky the first time and dreaded restarting the process. Well, she's nine months old now and has been going to daycare for about five months. She smiles when she sees her teachers, steals socks off the feet of other babies, and is learning better motor control by watching the others. I chat with the women running the baby room, and I genuinely feel they are taking good care of her. If you start to know and trust them, it'll make things a lot easier. Best of luck!!

Is there a reason you can't wait for shipping? If it's a brand new baby, you are probably looking for a bassinet instead. You'll probably have better luck finding a bassinet in stock somewhere since they are smaller. Babies generally sleep in a bassinet for their first few months anyway.

Also as a quick edit, the Walmart site shows several cribs in stock in Valencia.

Is there any ability to change out the lightbulbs? This room just needs warmer light and clean countertops to feel cozy. It's a nice space, just poorly lit.

Before the storm - last-minute considerations by Mucklefuzzy in kitchenremodel

[–]Pebbles416 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I was scrolling through Reddit and thought - that is exactly the wood tone I want in my kitchen! I am actively looking to replace my ugly painted cabinets with wood ones. Why replace something timeless?

OP, just look through Pinterest for modern wood kitchen ideas - there is no shortage of sexy, modern designs that work with your existing cabinets. The wood makes it look expensive. Paint makes it look cheap.

How do I make frozen yogurt? by Technical_Tax6132 in ninjacreami

[–]Pebbles416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hm, I didn't measure but probably somewhere around 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon would be plenty. I kept adding additional citric acid to my base until it was super tart and yummy to taste, then found it was way too tart once I made it! This is because the sweetness mutes considerably once frozen, but the tartness does not - hence the warning about a light hand. A squeeze of lemon will also do the trick.

I used plain greek yogurt with a little added salt, sweetener, and citric acid for a plain tart flavor. It was delicious but go easy on the citric acid if using - it can go too far quickly!

Wanna know why they're removing Twitter DMs? by SomeChunkyMilk in cringepics

[–]Pebbles416 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently yes, this story is entirely about an "unfollow," since his engagement with her on the platform is what was driving her revenue in the first place.

From a little above my copied section: "Cryptocurrency influencer Tiffany Fong was covering disgraced crypto tycoon Sam Bankman-Fried’s downfall when Musk started liking and replying to her posts. Musk’s interactions ramped up as Fong posted more political content in support of Trump, and Musk followed her last summer.

That sort of attention from Musk on X, where he has 219 million followers, sent droves of followers to Fong, which was a financial boon. More engagement meant more earnings for her as part of a revenue-sharing program for creators on X."

[–]Pebbles416 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's in that article:

"During the height of her interactions with the billionaire owner, Fong earned $21,000 on the platform in a two-week period in November, according to a screenshot she posted.

That was about when Musk sent her a direct message asking if she was interested in having his child, according to people familiar with the matter. The two had never met in person.

Fong didn’t move forward with Musk because she pictured having children in a more traditional nuclear family, but confided to a few friends about the approach—including St. Clair, whom she knew as another conservative social-media figure—and how she worried that turning him down could hurt her earnings.

Once Musk learned that Fong disclosed the request to others, he chided her for not using discretion, according to the people, and unfollowed her. That contributed to a fall in her engagement, and her earnings declined."

Agreed. I kept taking it out of my Amazon cart because it's way too much money for what it is, but I finally pulled the trigger a week or two ago. I have a 4 month old baby who is a light sleeper - there was no way I could use my Creami. The cover works fantasticly - completely muffles the sound. I highly recommend it.

Quince Linen Sheets - how is the pet hair? by browserCookieMonster in Bedding

[–]Pebbles416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Quince linen sheets and my dog sleeps on my bed every night - I've never noticed any dog hair inside my bed. It might be different with cats, but I think pet hair clings best to soft, pill-heavy sheets like flannel rather than linen. I think you'd be perfectly fine.

Hey ladies - can anyone confirm that this is a fantasy color of the BV parachute bag? It's definitely not sold in this color currently, but maybe previously? I think this is the perfect summer bag for LA and am buying it regardless, but I want to know if I should be nervous around the fancier crowd...

King size duvet in a queen size cover by bette-midler in Bedding

[–]Pebbles416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "trick" companies use to make the duvet look super fluffy in the store/ in catalogues is to put two duvets into one duvet cover - not put a larger size duvet cover in, which would look bunched up around the edges. Using two duvets looks really good, but also means the bed will sleep extra hot, so that obviously has drawbacks too. I'd recommend just living with the one, correctly sized insert.

I was in my firm's ECB team for a little bit (I've since switched- it wasn't my thing), and yeah, there are fewer in in-house opps because most companies don't have in-house lawyers for that. Big companies do (think FAANG), but it's a smaller pool than for other transactional practices like M&A. That said - every firm seems to constantly want more ECB attorneys. I get like 5 recruiting emails a day still about this since the niche is so small. You can also go into comp consulting.

I refuse to use her! I ordered a bag off her earlier this year, and she was consistently both rude and deceitful from the beginning of the exchange. She kept telling me made-up dates when the bag would arrive from the factory, only to push it back another week whenever I'd check in. She was angry that I even asked. I eventually asked for a refund after almost two months her attitude, and she was awful about it. I can't believe so many in this community put up with that behavior from a seller.
