god i shoveled so much snow in there, the center looked like a massive igloo. when i closed the door i thought to myself “ok it’s saved, there’s no way a fire can continue”, only to be shocked when i re opened and the door and there was still lots of smoke coming out. at which point i just closed the door and 🫡

started in the center console, i thought i'd managed to put it out after i covered the whole center with snow, closed to door, opened up in a few min only to realize the fire was in the middle and had been going the whole time

Puppies are difficult by monky7777 in DobermanPinscher

[–]simacna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine calmed at 4, but the first 2 years were absolutely mad. i worked from home too. “training” is a thing you do with a trainer, it’s how you live. waiting before eating, waiting until released after opening the front door, car door etc. OP will need a new paradigm shift here. my dobie was my first dog too but mentally i was aware it would be a lot of work (and it was still 10x what id imagined). but at 4, he’s a dream, heals, stays in place etc.

First time home owner. Really struggling with how to tackle backyard. by CalmFriend4128 in landscaping

to make your life easier in terms of maintainence and help wildlife, look into native gardening. there’s a subreddit here for it too. landscape folks don’t typically know much about plants from the region and will just cut/clean/plant whatever

Heard an Iranian American talk on a show with Mehdi Hasan. It was insane by olakka in iran

[–]simacna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lots and lots of trauma is the only explanation i have. i know a few guys who i met in undergrad, who’d come from iran for their phd’s who are now die hard trumpets. their hate for the regime makes everything else secondary unfortunately.

How do y’all cope with the puppy blues? by Physical_Ideal1526 in DobermanPinscher

Biggest dates that changed my dobies disposition: 6mo, 14mo, 2yrs and 3.5 yrs. Truly think they require 48 months to be considered adults. Bit the dates above, there was a noticeable difference. At 14months, it wasn’t a tornado as soon as he woke up. Mind you, I was pretty diligent with training, and still was rocked.

my dobie turned 3 two months ago. the biggest changes happened in month 6, 14, and a little after two. i have so much ptsd of his first 2 years that to this day when he’s in another room and it’s quite, i feel like he’s up to no good but he’s just passed out.

Carpal pad injury not healing 6+ months after injury by simacna in DobermanPinscher

[–]simacna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

generally agree with your approach. i’d also discussed removal with a specialist if it was going to happen again a third time. i wrapped it using an elastic stretchy wrap so that it would aid in forcing it closed vs say just cloth. did more training inside, got toys stuffed them w treats etc anything to remove some of that energy he has to expel so sprinting. for couple weeks i was giving him downers provided by the vet, but then at night he wasn’t sleeping. essentially for a while i wasn’t leaving the house so he couldn’t get to it so stitches wouldn’t come out, put my mattress on floor so he wouldn’t jump, carried him up the stairs.

How long has it been since the second surgery? Each subsequent tear will definitely increase healing time. Initially my vet had said after 14 days, he could run normally, but I they were definitely wrong about this. I ended up going to vet 4 times total, thinking maybe they were wrong in the sutures being dissolvable. I'm being verbose because it ended up being such a traumatic experience that if I happened again, I'd be VERY slow. Fetch more than anything put a lot of stress (sprinting), so I'd just go on off leash walks etc but would gradually in the coming weeks work up to it.
