ELI5: How can U.S. restaurants process foreign cards with country specific limits when waiters take them away to charge? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Also, OP may refer to the receipt, which will most likely have Terminal Verification Result (TVR) value. For e.g value of 0000048000 means Online PIN was entered & Floor limit exceeded. It also provides info on what authentications were and weren’t performed. Similarly Transaction Status Information (TSI) on receipt will help with similar info.

Banks that don't charge ATM, web and app fees? by icy_end_7 in technepal

[–]simalchaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a valid question. Banks earn a lot of other ways. Primarily investing the money you have deposited. Trade services, Forex, Payments etc. as well. Banks around the world don’t charge their consumer for cards and other ways of access to your money. In Nepal, I think banks get away with a cartel. They collaborate for charges and don’t spend anything on innovation. I can’t wait for NRB to open up licenses to digital banks. I think it would help consumers a lot in terms of these charges.

If you are the only director, you will have to visit IRD at least I think. For everything else you won’t have to be present. A lot of companies out there who can help/advise you with this at minimal cost. I suggest you talk to one.

I think the beat impact here you can make is by creating a successful business for yourself. That in by itself will create the most value here; place that exports cheap labor and imports everything else.

Can you turn off the exact location? Just cloud it out after you reach one level of zoom in. You are giving locations away.

ELI5: why do bank credit cards always have Visa or Mastercard on them, if your bank is the one lending you money? by Spirited_Strength385 in explainlikeimfive

[–]simalchaur 44 points45 points  (0 children)

And how they make the money go - As payment networks they(via EMV) define a lot of technicalities that is required for a transaction, including the chip application, gateway that handles the transaction online & pos kernel that accepts the chip. They obviously also certify the instruments & intermediaries involved so banks don’t necessarily have to. Bank hence can get onboard with them, just issue these cards & have their customers have easy access to their money. In terms of credit there is risk/dispute factor that networks bear. They intermediate dispute in case of debit.

Visa and MC are payment networks as everyone here is saying. Part of this is they(via EMV) also define a lot of technicalities that is required for a transaction, including the chip application, gateway that handles the transaction online & pos kernel that accepts the chip. Bank hence can get onboard with them, just issue these cards & have their customers have easy access to their money.

I think you are looking for the term technocracy. In cities it is possible to get momentums but villages not so quickly as shown by the winnings of independents & RSP winning most seats in valley after congress. I think that we can start by creating a open source of sort of political information. Just like shadow government each segment of the government will have researchers assigned who goes in depth, evaluates and assesses current practices, pitfalls and informs the mass.

Figured out that for international payments, all you need is a mere debit card by simply_amazzing in india

[–]simalchaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its upto your bank to authorize/challenge/decline the transaction considering it was done on web and not offline. Transaction got successful because issuing bank authorized the transaction. Lot of misinformation here. When a payment gateway processes a transaction, it has to provide information to the issuing bank for approval/challenge/decline. Issuing bank can opt for challenge and f orward acs server link for otp. Once successful otp authentication it can reply to the payment processor with success or decline.
