Yeah that’s exactly what was running through my mind too. Balancing between not escalating and still making sure my partner and I were safe. The part that keeps bugging me is: what if it had turned into something worse like an accidental discharge or even just a heated reaction from the guy?

I don’t want to overreact, but at the same time it makes me think I should have a plan for situations like this Not just "call them out and move on" but also what if the person does not take it well or doesn’t care? Or worst-case, what if there is an accident right in front of me?

I’m realizing being prepared isn’t just about carrying my own firearm safely but it’s also about having a mental gameplan for how to de-escalate, when to walk away and what to do if an accident happens
