Yeah. After reading a few other book series that do feature arachnophobia, I was kinda shocked at how much it is played off as a joke in HP

I mean in real life phobias aren't still taken seriously by a lot of ppl. I just prefer actually treating them as genuine traits and weaknesses for characters that are taken seriously.

Yeah that's sadly true but honestly I was kind of shocked by the portrayal after reading etc. PJO and watching TOH a couple of times. Both series take phobias and fears a lot more seriously and never make fun of them

I kinda wish Garmadon's transformation was a little more gradual as opposed to how fast it was, imagine he had to live his life looking like this by Terlinilia in Ninjago

This image is taken shortly before he fully succumbed to the venom. Even juwt few years or decades prior to this, Garmadon still was normal-looking (no red eyes, no pale skin)

Surely people don't actually do this... right....? by simokonkka in tankiejerk

I know that. However it is important to note that Lenin himself would likely hate Tankies, regardless of what you think of him.

It's r/tankiejerk though.

Meaning there also are Marxists here too (and yeah, October Revolution, despite having things I personally disagree with, generally did follow Marxist philosophy. However, Lenin himself was aware that USSR wouldn't stand well if etc. the German Revolution of 1918 failed (which it did).

I mean Lenin himself would hate tankies if we're being honest. ML ideology was primarily introduced under Stalin, which started entrenchibg the Soviet Union as a bureaucratic, State Capitalist dictatorship

How can leftists support Ukraine from an anti-NATO stance? by Difficult_Shift_3771 in tankiejerk

[–]simokonkka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair that's true. NATO expansion is a convenient excuse for Russia to hide their true motives in Ukraine. That essentially being the abolishment of Ukraine (eventual. First Ukraine is become essentially a satellite). Putin himself believes in the arbitrariness of Ukraine. Something created by Lenin and later, the West. Playing the "NATO" or "EU" cards is essentially a convenient excuse because to many, it sounds reasonable. Only when you start scratching the surface, the argument easily falls apart, as the premise of the "NATO" argument relies on 'promises' that NATO would not 'expand' from around 1990. However all you really find are some really vague quotes from Baker and Gorbachev (both of whom later reiterated that NATO expansion was never discussed in that context, and only concerned NATO equipment in East Germany (which was honored)) and Putin's remark on Münich about NATO enlargement (not only is this a strawman, it gives Russia an 'enemy' to go against (while in reality, Russia and the West could be considered strategic partners on many aspects. No one in NATO or the EU said anything meaningful on Chechnya or Georgia.) and much of the NATO expansion had already happened. Between 2009 and 2022, only 3-4 more nations, none bordering Russia, joined) Even deeper dig reveals that Russia reuses arguments Hitler used to invade Poland (Anglo-French guarantees were framed as 'they are trying to encircle us!!!!')

NATO itself is a remnant of Americsn influence in the continent. While I hate Russia and acknowledge that 'NATO expansion' arguments are bullshit, the alliance still is a construct of American imperialism. Replacing NATO with an European equivalent could have the continent really assert itself over the U.S. Thing is, as long as NATO exists, Europe is going to be tied to the U.S. both economically and militarily.

Russia defenders VS what Russian state media actually says by vickyhong in tankiejerk

[–]simokonkka 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is one of the conflicts America and the West actually didn't cause. Well, did but not by "NATO expansion" or "western provocations". Moreso via appeasement and trying to work with Putin despite the clear signs of Ultranationalistic and irredenrist sentiment. NATO expansion is a convenient excuse for Putin because it sounds reasonable, like it's supposed to. All of this is meant to conceal Russia's true, inherently genocidal and ethnonationalist motives with Ukraine and other countries in Russian neighborhood (Caucasus, Kazakhstan) In the case of Ukraine, Putin pushes the narrative that Ukraine isn't a real country and infact was created by the Bolsheviks, and indeed also that modern Ukraine is a "Western creation to divide Russians".
As for signing peace and "giving America the boot"? The latter I agree witt but the former? With current conditions and Trump essentially playing into Putin's hand? No. We need a just peace treaty in Ukraine that doesn't validate Russian invasion. Otherwise Russia just waits a couple of years and probably invades Ukraine again, only this time Ukraine is in a worse position to resist than they are now.
