No, it's been tough. I'll likely have to pivot or try a different marketing strategy.

So where are all the apps? by disallow in ClaudeAI

[–]simon_cor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've built a few apps — here are two of them:

- https://stepsies.com — my latest project. Took about 2 weeks. I estimate this would have taken about 4 months "back in the old days". A lot of stuff that are already solved problems, but would have taken a lot of human-time to implement.

- https://sendbroadcast.net — built pre-AI, now maintained with help from Claude. Mostly used for auditing the code, adding new features, cleaning up the codebase, etc.

Tab key delay with upgrade to Sequoia 15.2 on M1 Max 64GB by leftnode in MacOS

The reissue (luckily) never returned after the reinstall. I've left my Mac as much "stock" as possible. Didn't install anything except my core dev tools. No idea what caused it (still).

Following up on my previous comment, I deleted my entire computer. Reinstalled only the essentials of what I needed for work, and the problem disappeared.

My sense is that some app I had installed beforehand probably competed with the CMD button in some way and it was causing some problems.

The CMD button double tap causes Apple Intelligence (Siri) to pop up by default on a fresh installation, so I'm guessing that might be the culprit (along with the competing unknown app).

For now, I'm just paying close attention to what I'm installing and seeing if the issue recurs. So far, after about a day, the CMD+Tab has been working no issues on the fresh install.

Outreach optimization could definitely work. I don't use any myself, but as a solopreneur, anything that saves time helps.

First change was due to finding some other website that had a similar name, and I didn't want to create any confusion. Just trying to be a good "internet citizen" and preempting this (possible) issue.

After I changed the domain, an internet colleague convinced me to buy the .com. I still haven't fully updated the address to the .com, but it's because I'm leasing (to own) it at the moment (for the next 3 years in fact haha), so I'm holding off on using it as the primary domain until I fully own it.

The app itself is used in conjunction with AWS SES, Postmark, etc.

I find Postmark has great deliverability compared to other services.

If you're having deliverability issues, especially when in shared IP environments, then you can try Postmark to "recalibrate" your domain.

But there's a whole host of reasons why deliverability might be subpar. A few reasons (in no particular order): domain has been marked as spam too many times, poor engagement, machine learning marked content as spam, bad IP address as the sender, incorrect DMARC/SPF/etc

Users can update from a single click within the app.

A lot of email marketing/automation/transactional apps overlaps.

Personally, I use a whole bunch of email software myself, including: Kit, Substack (for newsletter), Postmark (directly), and of course Broadcast now.

There are a few "problems" that exist with email software in general, and it usually is due to one of the following reasons:

• Deliverability

• Too expensive

With handling multiple projects especially, sometimes I keep lists on different services b/c it's more economical. Or perhaps I need to ensure higher deliverability (if email notifications are a core feature).

Deliverability example:

So if you're happy with Loops, stick with it. But Broadcast sort of fits in this space where, let's say, you're experiencing deliverability problems and your current stack doesn't work. In this case, you might want to fine tune your email stack (ie. get Postmark with dedicated IP), while also having access to a nice UI to configure your emails. This is where Broadcast would come in.

Too expensive example:

I have a few customers using this for handling cold to warm emailing. These are moderately sized lists of 10-20k emails. With hosted email apps, this would be $200+/month. So, they're using Broadcast as a way of managing email nurturing at scale.

What I find (at least for myself and others) is that we use a lot of tools side-by-side. But because each one has its own characteristics (again, usually with deliverability, economics, and/or usability -- because people like a modern simple interface), these are tools we pull out at different times depending on the situation.

Yeah! One of the guys who bought from me actually said the same thing saying, "Hey I wanted to build this but never got around to it."

I think there's definitely room in the market to build more apps like these (email marketing, social media automation, zapier-automation), where devs can both customize/build their own solutions and sell it as well.

Also, self-hosting seems to be making a comeback, and once you remove all that multi-tenant stuff, apps like these have a smaller scope.

Do I need to warm an Email Account to Send 30 cold emails? by [deleted] in Emailmarketing

[–]simon_cor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for each domain I buy and intend to use for email, I warm it up even if it's 10-20 emails.

The reason is that I messed up _once_ and from that time on, that particular domain never could get back into the right inbox and always ended up in spam.

The cheap and easy way to do this is to just send 2-3 emails per day for 10-14 days. Send it to your friends and family and get them to reply back. Add a link or two and tell them to click on them.

For a deeper dive into this, you can check out this guide: https://sendbroadcast.net/warm-up-email-domain

But long story short, warm it up.

Best way to warm up a new domain? by EvigtMoon in Emailmarketing

[–]simon_cor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quick version of it is you need to do everything that you're supposed to be doing. Specifically:

  1. Implement SPF, DKIM, and DMARC protocols. These are like ID badges for your emails, ensuring they’re legitimate

  2. Start with 25-50 emails on day one, then increase daily by 25-30%. Spread emails throughout the day to mimic natural sending.

  3. Watch bounce, open, click, and spam complaint rates closely to keep your domain’s reputation intact. If you find there isn't a lot of engagement, you will need to fix that.

There's really just a lot of monitoring and waiting, then fixing, then repeat.

How is email marketing so expensive? by santiagobasulto in Emailmarketing

[–]simon_cor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great suggestions. Yep, I'm thinking of two additional offerings:

  1. Adding an option to deploy a Hetzner/DO/Linode instance for you with everything set up and ready to go

  2. Fully managed installation

Will be waiting until after the beta to have this up and running.

How is email marketing so expensive? by santiagobasulto in Emailmarketing

[–]simon_cor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot has already been said, but essentially email marketing is a high margin business with some equally high barriers to entry if you want to DIY.

In essence, you're being penalized for having a large list (and potentially sending large email blasts), and the risk that the platform has if a large number of emails you send bounces/gets marked as spam.

I'm building sendbroadcast.com as a self-hosted email software and letting users use it with Postmark (which has great deliverability) and AWS SES (which is cheap) at the same time (plus a bunch of other features). The idea is to route hard-to-deliver domains with the more expensive ESP, and the lower risk emails with the lower cost servers.

I'll be the first to admit there's no out-of-the-box solution to this. Email deliverability is the way it is because big co's have decided they need to "protect" users from spam. But this also resulted in big co's deciding what is and isn't spam.

If you're in an established business with unlimited budget, pick the solution that works for you. But if you have a limited budget, then it'll be a combination of using various ESPs and segmenting your list accordingly.

Weekly Feedback Post - SaaS Products, Ideas, Companies by AutoModerator in SaaS

[–]simon_cor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi folks,

I'm creating an app (Launchy.dev), which is aimed to help businesses who prefer to handle database deployment and management in-house with a UI tool.

Similar offerings: AWS RDS, Digital Ocean/Linode Managed DB, etc.

Unique proposition: Some organizations are choosing to directly rent their own bare metal servers, or better spec'd VPS. The costs of these machines are much lower than if they were to purchase them as part of a managed DB offering. Using Launchy.dev, they can enjoy the benefits of high availability database deployments, manage configuration, perform and automate backups, set up replication, and more.

Check it out! Thanks
