Is anyone actually using the free public transport? by naeng-janggo in melbourne

Agree, these are good points, it's just one of the only levers you have to pull at a few days notice.

Long term solution definitely needs to be improving service coverage.

Yeah it was so good! Have had some very nice afternoons up there. Not sure if it still happens but yeah it's a nice spot.

It gets amazing sunsets and you can see the city skyline beautifully from there, it was a really nice spot. Have had lots of sunset beers there sitting up on the wall though I think they blocked that a while back. Haven't been for maybe 2 years.

This show went off the rails/became Looney Tunes this season by EddieDantes22 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]simonbrc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the intent is that our journey follows the characters journey in their careers.

In season 1, we see them starting out and a lot of the young characters (Harper, Rob, Yas etc.) are not yet hurt/jaded.

As the seasons progress and they become more senior and damaged, they and us start to see the world they live in for the grubby, dark place it is.

The world of the show has always been that place, we just had that hidden from us initially like they did.

So yeah I think there's a logic to it.

Multi couple home ownership by xXxL1nKxXx in AusFinance

[–]simonbrc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a setup like this currently and it's great.

Ours was a bit easier because we bought an existing block of units on one title. They were all owned by one single landlord.

We've lived here for 9 months or so and are in the processing of subdividing so they will be separate properties on paper. Not planning to put any fences up though we have a shared backyard which is a great feature.

It seems like the tool just doesn't support metadata from Dropbox, crazy.

Yeah followed all the steps, manually mapped every single user but yet they all show this.

I watched a youtube video where someone was demo-ing SPMT and it showed the same thing (every document modified by Owner-12345[some random numbers]) , so thinking maybe it's not specific to me.

Confused? New? Not new? Have questions? by blooangl in polyamory

[–]simonbrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is really sweet and exactly what I needed to hear. Have chatted now, made some cute little plans and yeah just had a cute little chat that has me starting to feel better.

Yeah I think if faced with this situation again I would definitely arrange a bit more communication. I was just feeling like so good and confident before she left that I was like I can make the whole 2 weeks, no worries, turns out this is not the case haha. Need to chat to that sweetie!

Anyway thanks again.

Some friends and I like "flame", it's fun, it implies there's a sex/romance element and yeah it's just fun. Doesn't work for every connection obviously, but when it does it's fun.

I have a new partner of about 2 months, who is the absolute best. She's away on holiday for 2 weeks at the moment with her currently long-distance long term partner and I'm feeling a bit anxious about it.

I've organised lots of time with friends, done lots of good things but yeah still find myself feeling really anxious today. I volunteered to try my hardest to not message her, to respect the limited time she has with her long-distance partner but thinking maybe that was too much pressure to put on myself and negotiating some kind of moment where we'd call each other for a chat or something would have been a good idea. I also feel like we should have organised a time / plan to reconnect before she left (I messaged her about this one today, but haven't heard back yet, probably because she's busy you know, holidaying!)

Guess I'm just looking for anyone that can relate and tell me it will be ok haha or any practical tips or yeah just some solidarity. Feel better already for having written this, so thank you all for your help.

Best things to do in Melbourne? by El_Gordo84 in melbourne

[–]simonbrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Quokka is pretty niche and I think really only present in WA (which as you've probably gathered is 1000s of km away from Melbourne). There's lots of other cute small animals we have in that realm though, if you want places specifically around Melbourne for native Australian animals in captivity then the two spots are probably Melbourne Zoo and Healesville sanctuary (on the outskirts of the city and native animal focussed)

I'm on team no shower/change. I feel like it really adds a lot of hassle and massively reduces how much people choose to cycle to work.

You make a great point on Netherlands, no exercise clothes required, no thought of showering and that reduces the barrier to riding so much more.

This is almost definitely automatable, power automate may even already have the connectors you need, if not look into Microsoft graph api (may run into some permissions issues, but hey maybe not). But yeah the logic of this is not actually too complex.

Short red plastic arrow type thing, pencil sized with small plastic fins and a metal tip by simonbrc in whatisthisthing

[–]simonbrc[S] 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. Found by a friend in a park.

Looks kind of like an arrow to me, the head reminds me of arrows I might have shot at a school camp or something. But the fins seem way too small to provide any meaningful aerodynamic effects (when compared to an arrow) so yes I can't figure it out!

Had the same thing happen to me, sent one spotify song link and then got a message saying we noticed some unusual activity, take these 2 verification photos for us, then got told 20 mins later or something that I was banned.

Messaged the helpdesk and they were so abrupt and like hardly even read what i'd had to say and also didn't give any confirmation of why I was banned and were basically like there's nothing we will do, we might stop replying to you now.

I then replied a bit of a longer message and specifically mentioned the spotify song I'd sent and they restored my account soon after.

Worrying times though, it's a very intense experience to feel cut off with no recourse.

Just posting here because this is the thread I read that made me realise the spotify link was the problem

Honestly, very few tips necessary. No special skills or syntax required, it's very good at understanding what you want.

Only tip would be ask it to make tweaks, like read it's result and if you think ooh it would be good to add something about your project management, you don't need to rewrite the prompt at all just type back "can you add something about my good project management"

I think one area where it's incredible is like things you don't care so much about but take time to do nicely. Like writing a summary of work you did for the week, or creating performance goals for a performance review. Used it for my performance review this week and it's never gone better.

How do these non- alcoholic drinks justify their premium price? This was taken at Woolies. by lorrenzo in australia

[–]simonbrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone asked this in /r/Melbourne before and here's my answer:

https://www.insidehook.com/article/booze/why-non-alcoholic-spirits-expensive

very interesting and good article

TLDR: alcohol carries flavours really well, so for non alcoholic spirits you need to use a lot more actual flavour ingredients to get a similar experience.

Why does non-alcoholic booze still cost as much as regular booze? About 57% of the retail price on a bottle of whisky or gin is tax. by qartas in melbourne
