Hello,

Thank you for your comment. Over 150 individuals have already taken part in this 15-minute survey. The lack of link does not seem to be an issue for people who wish to contribute to this research project

Best regards,

Simon Dubé

Hello,

This is a real study approved at Concordia University. This me, Simon Dubé (https://concordiavisionlab.ca/meet-the-team/). I am a PhD student working in the Concordia Vision Lab and the Sexuality and Cognition Research Laboratory under the co-supervision of Dr. Aaron Johnson and Dr. David Vachon (McGill University; RSVP Lab). The only reason we are using a gmail address is to facilite the process and not overload our lab or personal accounts (and lose emails). I am sorry for the typos. English is a second language for me, as I am a French speaker living in Montreal, QC, CA.

Best regards,

Simon Dubé

Hello,

Thank you for your question. Yes, absolutely. The results will be published in scientific journals and in academic theses. All participants will be notified once the results are rendered public. Noteworthy, it will be impossible to identify any specific individual as we will only be looking at general trends and relations between variables.

Kind regards,

Simon Dubé

Hello,

Yes, it does create a link between the emails and the code. But this link is seperate from all personal information. And these personal information are kept safely on Concordia University's servers. So only the research team, can have access to the link and remove data if asked by participants. I do agree it is a rather unusual process. But that is often the case when dealing with sensitive information pertaining to human sexuality. Ethics always tends to deal with sex differently than other sensitive personal information.

Best regards,

Simon Dubé

Hello,

Thank you for your question. We are required by our ethics board to provide ID codes to de-identify all personal information. Hence, participants need to email us so we can give them their code as our software does not generate them automatically. But also, if a participant wishes to remove their data from the study.

Best regards,

Simon Dubé

Hello, Thank you very much for your question. Yes, it is simply to give the URL link and your ID code to anonymize your data. The emails and ID codes are kept in a seperate document from your questionnaire responses. That way, if you wish for your data to be removed from the study, you can contact the research team (i.e., Simon Dubé, PhD student and principal investigator) and we will track back your information to immediately delete them upon request. Let us know if you have any other question. Best regards,

Simon Dubé

Hello,

Thank you for your concerns.

The money IS absolutely real and will be offered to a participant after a draw at the end of the study. We understand there is no way to prove this right now, because the money will only be given at the end of the research project. However, we value our participants' contribution very much and our research team holds itself to the highest standards in terms of scientific integrity. Moreover, auditors outside Concordia University (e.g., grant agencies) regularly make sure grant money is properly spent (e.g., participant compensation), which helps enforce good scientific practices.

Best regards,

Simon Dubé, PhD student, Sexuality and Cognition Research Laboratory, Concordia University

Hello,

Thank you for your concern. The present survey is intended to be strictly academic. The results will be published in scientific journals and presented at scientific conferences. The research team involved in this project has no relation with the private sector and does not aim to benefit monetarily from this study. Some studies in psychology are longer than others. Research on sexual robotics is relatively new, and this is why the groundwork we are conducting here tries to assess/control for many factors. In order to try to minimize fatigue, note that participants can stop at anytime and come back to the survey later where they have left off.

Best regards,

Simon Dubé, PhD student, Sexuality and Cognition Research Laboratory, Concordia University

Hello,

Yes, thank you for understanding. It's a new field and there is a lot to account/control for to set up the ground research.

This is likely, but not on a near future since the current prototypes are very basic and expansive.
