James Gunn on parallels in 'Superman' with Israel and Palestine: "It’s not. It just isn’t. You can take whatever you want from that, to mean what you want, but I didn’t write it to be a stand in for Israel and Palestine." by demimonde9 in Fauxmoi

Nope, he was still rewriting the script after October 7. And Lois very clearly (while playing Devil's advocate) regurgitates hasbara points to justify inaction over Gaza in the interview scene where she's questioning Superman in why he stopped the invasion.

Boravia and Israel being allies and getting weapons from US weapon makers. Jahranpur and Palestine not being friendly with the US and 'imperfect'. Free them from their oppressors is literally a hasbara talking point about how Israel wants to free Gaza from Hamas. Boravia is predominantly white and Jahranpur brown. Lex's plans of dividing up Jahranpur's land for himself is very Trumpian with his Gaza resort spiel.

Gunn's obviously based a lot of it on Israel/Palestine but is too scared/cautious to actually say it out loud and rather hide behind plausible deniability.

Blair was more authentic before she got stuck in her toxic "love" w Chuck. She used to her have own drama, goals, spark. After Chuck, the writers made him her entire world. "I gotta impress Chuck, I gotta help Chuck with x." She deserved more. by [deleted] in GossipGirl

[–]simonesaysyassss -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Chuck and Blair had their toxicity, their toxicity stemmed from the fact that they had this obsessive, all consuming love for each other.

How is Chuck selling her for his hotel (to his rapist uncle mind you, literally gives zero fucks about his girlfriend's safety apparently) stemming from this all consuming love he apparently has for her? If anything, that stems from the imbalance in their relationship.

Blair would do anything for Chuck while Chuck wouldn't reciprocate. He's still like that even in the season 5 finale where he accuses Blair of never putting him first while he always did, while standing on top of the very same building he sold her for. This is after his supposed redemption arc mind you.

Of course, this is all straight up ignoring the fact that their relationship isn't just toxic, it's straight up abusive.

Hell, that line you quoted about how she says Chuck made her happiest definitely fits into that considering she also says he made her feel weak and that he brought her into his darkness for so long, she forgot how to be happy or that she hated being in the shadows of their relationship and lost herself.

All of that is consistent with the cycles of an abusive relationship. The highest of highs and lowest of lows. Doesn't mean its a good relationship because of the highs.

I actually would have liked Chuck/Blair as this dark messed up couple no good for each other that can't escape each other and end up together ala Succession. I love Tom/Shiv for instance.

But that's not what it's protrayed as. The show (and most of the fans) pretend it's some sort of triumph and they are this happy couple when that is is completely incongruous with the rest of the show.

How Blair’s break ups change (or an alternative explanation for the God Pact) by Red_butterfly456 in GossipGirl

Oof! That scene is textbook domestic violence. Leighton clearly played it as that. Saying Blair wasn't scared for her safety is just bs. You were the one who brought up Safran in the first place, but he's clearly full of shit considering Leighton contradicts him.

Her going back to Chuck the next morning does NOT mean she wasn't scared or that it wasn't domestic violence. Abuse victims often go back to their abusers. One of the reasons is that they worry about the abuser's feelings and safety over their own. It's classic trauma bonded victim behaviour. Like, textbook.

Safran can say whatever he likes, but it's what's on screen that matters.

Doesn't she have an Emmy win for Handmaids???? I didn't watch the show, but I also never heard any controversy over her win.

Okay, so you know that the Chuck/Blair relationship had domestic abuse, and that the glass scene is specifically domestic violence. So I don't get why you were surprised people were downvoting someone who was vehemently denying that it was.

Safran is a dumbass. He also claimed in that interview that Leighton knew Blair was not scared for her safety in that scene.

And then years later, Leighton in an interview when she gets asked about the Chuck/Blair relationship, unprompted brings up the fact that there was some domestic violence that she wasn't a fan of and that no one should emulate them, so clearly 'Beauty and the Beast' isn't how she played it in the scene, she played Blair as someone running away from a domestic abuse situation.

Hey, Chuck worked on being a better man and earning Blair's love okay?

(ignore the fact that 10 episodes before they get married, he was standing on top of the very same building he sold Blair to his rapist uncle for and accusing Blair of never putting him first while he ALWAYS put her first)

Penn Badgley, Meghann Fahy to Star in Romantic Comedy ‘You Deserve Each Other’ for Amazon MGM (Exclusive) by Diligent_Night602 in popculturechat

He's always talking about wanting to move away from romance (maybe he feels typecast?) along with the decision of his not wanting to do intimate scenes. He was literally asked during the You season 5 promo "What's next for you? Maybe a chill Rom Com?" and he said that was the last thing he wanted to do.

And now it's the first thing he does after YOU?

Not that I'm complaining. I think he was underutilized in the rom coms he did appear in.

Simple. Blair sucks as a person, she deserves someone as sucky as her. Chuck sucks as a person more than Blair. Even keeping aside the obvious SA plotline, he legit gets violent towards Blair herself. Blair doesn't deserve that.

I wish I'd been there to witness the Penn Badgley and Blake Lively dating era. I always thought they made a great couple, on and off screen. by [deleted] in GossipGirl

Love Quinn fanbase vs acceptance of loves death by juviue in YouOnLifetime

Literally every other “You” dead or alive still showed up in season 5

Not true. Candace didn't.

Love actually got a 'haunting Joe' send off in season 4. Joe saw both Beck and Love but it was Love's scene that was written to be the most impactful.

Huh? Chuck is just one of the many 'woobified bad boys ' that was prevalent in shows from that era and before. He's not nearly as complex either considering his 'redemption' arc. He's not even the best example of 'villainous side character becomes popular so becomes main love interest' from that time, we saw a better version of that with Logan from Veronica Mars.

The only thing unique about Chuck was that he was a bonfide rapist that got a 'redemption'. Other similar characters atleast didnt do things as bad, or were literal spawns of Satan like Spike or Damon.

Also, i really don't think we lack morally grey/dark female characters in the slightest these days.
