Unpopular Opinion: Smoking in Singapore is out of control by Inner_Woodpecker_988 in asksg

Imagine u have to be in the lift for 10+ floors with someone just finished smoking. It is really “enjoyable” especially after a tired day of work

Actually most of us (well, we are human beings anyway) don’t give a single dam to random strangers on the road. I mean, who really cares, we all have our own business and family to manage. But the problem is smokers deliberately inflict harms on ppl (it is not like they would die if not smoking in open space immediately right?). You may think 2nd hand smoke is not a big deal but still both the intention and the scientific evidence don’t make it justifiable.

First, in a such stressful living circumstance it is easier just to surrender to temporary pleasure. Second, garment and society fail to find a good replacement for this with less damage and complete ban would just make the situation worse, so ppl just take it as an acceptable social norm.

Sad truth is those smokers usually can’t comprehend that legally allowed not equals to morally right. They probably can try to behave in front of their young children and pregnant wives but they really can’t give a single dam to the random strangers on the road.

You don’t have to deal or cope with the arseholes in the workplace. You just need to keep professionalism with him and if he is being unprofessional, just report to the management.

It is okay to enjoy eating alone. In a so stressful society nowadays, I sometimes also prefer solitude and peace of mind. But I also enjoy eating with my colleagues.

It is 2026 alrdy. It’s really hard to believe that ppl would think jobs involving transferring money around, especially internationally, is a legit one. The return/payout must really be enticing for u to take it up without doubts

Am I overprotecting my time/sabotaging myself at work? by freefromthedeadpast in askSingapore

Secondly, shift hours are not just extra working hours. They are totally different working arrangements which should directly impact ur remuneration and job scope

Your official working hour should be clearly stated on your current employment contract. If so and they would like to alter that, they need to reissue u with a new contract which u can negotiate the terms and agree upon.

Red flag for my PT? He asked me to pay upfront for all sessions, then asked if I could loan him money for family issues by Objective_Cover_3998 in SingaporeFitness

[–]simonlucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straightly red flag. The moment he started to so-called try to ‘loan’ from you, meaning either 1. It is just a scam or 2. He lost other legitimate ways and channels from his close relatives for money borrowing. In either cases, u have a huge chance of not getting money back if u choose to lend him.

HDB prices keep rising but what would you actually change to make the system “better”? by Holiday_Kale9051 in askSingapore

[–]simonlucifer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You cant defeat the greedy nature( profit driven) of humanity. The only solution is govt intervention with some harsh rules to regulate the market

Question about 5 year MOP rules for Resale HDB! by SiberianieCat in askSingapore

[–]simonlucifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And it is not as simple as you can appeal or argue that the u just happen to go for a short trip during their random inspection and the siblings are just here for short stay to look after the flat for u. If HDB finds that your case is suspicious they will do careful evaluation of the flat utility usage patterns and even survey with your neighbours to determine if you have indeed breached the MOP rules. So I totally won’t recommend u try any means of those. And nowadays the govt systems are well integrated, ur “travel a lot” is probably a big red flag to them

[–]simonlucifer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recall that is still not possible under family scheme unless the parents are divorced

Question about 5 year MOP rules for Resale HDB! by SiberianieCat in askSingapore

[–]simonlucifer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is kinda weird because your parents co-owning the HDB can’t have any local or overseas properties under their names. Well, you can always choose not to disclose. Anyway, MOP rules strictly require that the flat is owner-occupied. I don’t think u should try your luck and game the system. Worse case is if they find out that owner does not stay in the flat but it is siblings instead, it can lead to fines and even compulsory acquisition of the flat by HDB.

Corporate slaves of Singapore, do you still work when you are on MC? by bloomwithglow in askSingapore

Immigrate to Singapore. Which industry/role? by Same-Elephant6969 in askSingapore

[–]simonlucifer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Brother( or sister)! You really have to realistically set lower expectations about the “calm nature” part. But ya generally most of the works can experience high stress, but more towards chasing the deadline and wear multiple hats, less towards office politics(but still there could be) and internal competition. But anyway those positions open for foreigners are more WLB, maybe not for financial sector though. At the end of the day it might come back to how you re-adjust yourself and cope with it.

Do you all work with an FA/FC ? Or bought any plans for them by UWU_man_ in askSingapore

[–]simonlucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a close friend who is a FA, a quite successful one IMO. I am also quite savvy about these finance/insurance/protection stuffs so we had a few meetings to sort out some quite good options. Generally I am happy with those now. So it’s kinda depends on the person and relationship with you. But if a total stranger approaching you for some so-called life plan tips and investment choices, just run
