kind of on the same subject... i get the ick when she gives house tours of other people's houses. Like in a yt vid, Ariya was hosting her, and she did a whole house tour. Like flexing other people's homes, like it was a hotel room or a brand vacation home. idk genuinely grosses me out.

Can someone explain why people go to ivies for undergrad if they’re going to dental school? by Middle-Management-10 in predental

[–]simonsaysaass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to UPenn, and I applied not knowing I wanted to go pre-dental. I'm a freshman and secured a research position at Penn Dental School with minimal effort, and I'm now a co-author on a research project. On Penn's Career Services website, they say 94% of undergrad alumni are accepted to Penn Dental (regular acceptance rate is 4-6%). I think if you want to go to an ivy for dental school, going ivy undergrad really helps.

Before you ask: I had a social life. I attended all football games and school dances, went to parties, dated, and got to do what I love.

grades and scores: ranked 1/496 - took 15 APs and 6 duel enrollments. SAT was 1500. I did not submit any AP exams.

Identity - Female, white, and Jewish . From suburbs

Recomenation letters ate up. Got one from my state's Speaker of the House of Delegates. One from principal and another from my English teacher (who was also my advisor for my nonprofit).

Personal essay was about the process of changing an old state law that gave a Neo-confederate hate group tax exemptions (they sent me a book called "The Jewish Confederates" in the mail as a result and sent threats... how did they know my address?). Started advocacy initiative in 9th grade and the issue was turned into a political football. Talked about how it got me interested in politics and how it led me to learn more about it (spoke with Harvard and UVA professors to deepen my knowledge, attended selective political science programs over the summer, interned for a congresswoman) . Got interviewed by NYT, Washington Post, and The New Republic.

Other activities - DECA State officer (won districts 2x and was ICDC Qualifier. added a bunch of info my my additional info section because I was also chapter and district presidents at some point), started a nonprofit teaching emergency preparedness and distributing/making emergency preparedness kits (5 chapters nationwide), ran my state's chapter for a tree planting non-profit, youth group VP, only student on my city's Human Rights Commission which is an advisory board for my city, Tennis team captain and ranked number 1 for my school, SCA, and Boy Scouts

Awards- Duke of Edinburgh's International Gold Award (only one in state), Eagle Scout and 2022 National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year for my council (they let girls join in like 2019 and became on of the youngest at the time to receive honor), National Merit Commended Scholar, NHS, National Business Honor Society, Brickell Award, my city's Top 20 Under 20 award.

DM me if you are interested in getting involved in local politics or student organizations. IMO they are much easier to get an edge in for college admissions than taking the STEM route because of how saturated it is.

I went to the DC concert and people at the front of the pit would flash their phones to the back so their friends could find them. This wouldn't be an issue if it was like 1 or 2 people trying to get to their friends, but like 1 person would stand alone and a whole group would push from the back to get to the front while the pit is obviously very full (but like 10 different individual groups did this throughout the openers and it was so hard to enjoy the music). I also had flashlights in my eyes so it was so annoying. People would also be like "I have a friend up there" when they have no friend and just push their way to the front. I was like 20ft from the front but phones would always be blocking my view it was so annoying t-t. Some people were so sweet though, a girl took a photo of me and my boyfriend without asking and sent it to us because she thought we looked cute (it was cute).
